Toxic Followership
Toxic Followership is characterized by unethical behavior, manipulation and failure to drive the
team. Toxic followers can be more dangerous because they effect all levels of rank structure. They
adversely impact the leader .
What can be done
1. Leaders must take time to explain bigger picture to the team. Followers may not always
understand the bigger picture and leaders might lose sight while managing countless
personalities.
2. Leaders must foster open mindedness as employees feel appreciated valued and
acknowledged in the organization. These actions prevents cohesion and negative thinking.
3. Counter negativity by responding with positivity
4. Create a culture where everyone in the organization feels responsible.
5. Demonstrate loyalty & leadership to the team and the organization.

Closing • Team members identify themselves as a unit

Notes and practically plan organizational development
and progress to achieve similar strategies and
