What happens after pollination?

1.The pollen grain contains two cells- a tube cell and a

generative cell.
2. The tube cell starts growing downwards to form the
pollen tube.
3 The generative cell divides to form two sperm nuclei. They
travel through the pollen tube to reach the ovule.
4 One of the sperm nuclei fuses with the egg nucleus in the
ovule to form a zygote (fertilised egg).
5 The other sperm nucleus fuses with the central nucleus,
which will form the endosperm (food store for the seed)
HOW ARE SEEDS FORMED?

After fertilisation, the petals and other parts

that help in pollination wither and drop off.
Seed formation begins. : 02 Each ovule develops into a
seed, which carries the
embryo and the endosperm.

01 The zygote develops into an

How a Guava fruit develops

1. A guava flower is
pollinated and fertilised
2.the petals wither. And fall
off
3. The fruit start to develop
4. The fully developed fruit
contains the seed

SEED DISPERSAL
To grow well, plants need sufficient amounts of light, water, mineral
salts and space. If too many plants grow too close to one another in
overcrowded conditions, they will have to compete for light, water,
mineral salts and space.
To prevent overcrowding, seeds must be scattered away from the
parent plants and other seeds. Besides protecting the seeds, fruits also
help plants disperse the seeds.
HOW ARE SEED DISPERSED BY WIND

How are seeds dispersed by water?
The fruits or seeds dispersed by water are usually able to float
on water. A coconut fruit has a fibrous husk that traps air to
help it float on water. Other Example:

-Mangrove fruit
-Nipa palm
-lotus
HOW ARE SEEDS DISPERSED BY ANIMALS?

Some fruits-are sweet and juicy Animals eat them and disperse
their seeds by throw them away after eating the fruits.
Sometimes, the animals swallow the seeds with the fruits. Some
of these seeds are dispersed when they pass out with the
animal droppings.
