This document outlines specifications for testing HDPE/PP woven sacks used for packaging 50 kg and 25 kg food grains according to Indian standard IS 14887:2000. It describes testing the raw materials, fabrics, sack dimensions, seam and fabric strengths, UV resistance, and other qualities like drop tests and tape denier and tenacity. Fabric strength is tested on a tensile testing machine using 50mm wide by 300mm long specimens with a 200mm gauge length at 100mm/min test speed. Seam strength is also tested via tensile testing. Sacks undergo a drop test from 1.5m to check for failures when filled.

SPECIFICATION IS 14887: 2000 Raw Materials Fabrics Sack Bottom Seam Mouth Liner Capacity Dimension ( inside length and width) Ends per dm Picks per dm Average Breaking strength and elongation of fabric ( length and width wise) Average Breaking strength of bottom seam UV Resistance Printing ,Packaging and Marking FABRIC STRENGTH
This is tested on tensile testing machine on a sample cut from
the sack. Specimen width : 50 mm, length : 300 mm Gauge length : 200 mm Test speed : 100 mm/min. SEAM STRENGTH A cut sample from seam is tested in tensile testing machine for the breaking strength. DROP TEST A filled sack is dropped vertically on the bottom from a height of 1.5m and there should be no failure in three drops. DENIER OF THE TAPE A measure of weight per 9000m length of the tape. TENASITY OF THE TAPE It is the measure of load per denier ie. The pulling force (load) divided by denier.
