Omeprazole

What is Omeprazole?
Omeprazole is proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
Omeprazole is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions caused
by excess stomach acid. It is also used to promote healing of erosive esophagitis (damage to your esophagus
caused by stomach acid).

 The absorption of omeprazole takes place in the small intestine and is usually completed within 3 to 6 hours

Indication

 Treatment of active duodenal ulcer in adults


 Eradication of Helicobacter pylori to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence in adults
 Treatment of active benign gastric ulcer in adults
 Treatment of symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in patients 1 year of age and older
 Treatment of erosive esophagitis (EE) due to acid-mediated GERD in patients 1 month of age and older
 Maintenance of healing of EE due to acid-mediated GERD in patients 1 year of age and older
 Pathologic hypersecretory conditions in adults
Contraindication

 Omeprazole Delayed-Release Capsules are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any
component of the formulation. Hypersensitivity reactions may include anaphylaxis, anaphylactic shock,
angioedema, bronchospasm, interstitial nephritis, and urticaria
Dosage

 20-40mg/day
