INTRODUCTION
• Variation in quality control refers to the fluctuation
or inconsistency observed in the output or
performance of a product or process during quality
control measures.
• It signifies deviations or differences in the desired or
expected quality standards.
• This variation can manifest in different forms, such
as variations in product dimensions, color, weight,
functionality, or even defects.

3
COMMON VARIATION CAUSES

It is also known as Random variation

It arises from the natural variability of

inputs, equipment, or environment

It is expected to be present to some degree

in any system.

4
ASSIGNABLE VARIATION CAUSES

It is also known as special variation causes

It arises from specific factors that can be

identified and addressed.

These factors could be unusual events,

equipment malfunctions, operator errors, or
changes in the process.

CONCLUSION

• Both common and special causes of variation need to be

addressed within quality control processes.
• While common causes represent the natural variability of the
system, efforts should be made to minimize them and
continuously improve overall process capability.
• Special causes, on the other hand, require immediate action to
identify and eliminate the specific root causes responsible for
the abnormal variation.
