Winning our

Personal Battle
(Keep on fighting)
Ephesians 6:10-12
Ephesians 6:10-12
10
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord
and in the power of His might.
11
Put on the whole armor of God, that you
may be able to stand against the wiles of the
devil.
12
For we do not wrestle against flesh and
blood, but against principalities, against
powers, against the rulers of the darkness of
this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness
in the heavenly places.
Winning our
Personal Battle

“We lose the war,

but win the battle.”
Winning our
Personal Battle

“We win the war,

but lose the
battle.”
Mighty men of the Bible:
1. GIDEON (Judges 6 to 8) – “great warrior”
• Gideon was the second judge after
Samson and a mighty man of war in Israel.
• He was the youngest of a poor family
from the tribe of Manasseh. God called
him to deliver Israel from the oppression
of the Midianites (Judges 6:14-16).
Judges 6:15
• Gideon tried to give excuses saying: “O
my Lord, how can I save Israel?
Indeed my clan is the weakest in
Manasseh, and I am the least in my
father’s house.”
• Gideon’s personal battle: insecurity
and inferiority complex
Judges 6:12,16
• But God assured him saying:
• “The LORD is with you, mighty
warrior.” (v12)
• “Surely I will be with you, and you
shall defeat the Midianites as one
man”. (v16)
Mighty men of the Bible:
2. PROPHET ELIJAH (1 Kings 17 to 19) –
“Jehovah is my God”, is one of the greatest
prophets and miracle-workers in Israel.
• At Elijah’s word, kings trembled, the rains
stopped, a jug of oil never ran dry, a boy
was raised from the dead, fire fell from
the sky, revival broke out, and hundreds
of idolatrous prophets of Baal were
executed.
Elijah’s personal battle:
• Fearing Jezebel, Elijah flees into the
desert and asks the Lord to take his
life. He wrongly assumes that he is
the Lord’s only prophet within the
kingdom of Israel.
• Abandonment, self-pity, spiritual
fatigue, suicidal depression
Mighty men of the Bible:
3. KING DAVID
– one of the greatest soldiers Israel
had produced; defeated 10,000
enemies at one battle
- Great composer
- The greatest monarch at Israel’s
throne
David’s personal battle:
• David’s house and reign over all of Israel had been
established by God. The once 17-year-old shepherd
now finds himself in a city that bears his name –
the City of David.  A King who has found favour in
the Lord’s sight and had been blessed. In fact, David
lacked nothing and he praised God for that. But his
personal downside subtracted God’s glory in his
life.
• Lust of the flesh, adulterous relationship,
deceitful tongue, murder
Mighty men of the Bible:
4. ST. PAUL - Far from ordinary, Paul was
given the opportunity to do extraordinary
things for the kingdom of God. The story of
Paul is a story of redemption in Jesus Christ
and a testimony that no one is beyond the
saving grace of the Lord.
- considered as the greatest apostle of our
Lord Jesus Christ.
- Wrote 13 “letters” of the New Testament
Paul’s personal battle:
2 Corinthians 9:7-9
Therefore, in order to keep me from
becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in
my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment
me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to
take it away from me.
But he said to me, “My grace is

sufficient for you, for my power is

made perfect in weakness.”
Winning our
Personal Battle

• These parts of mighty men’s

lives has some lessons we can
learn from and certain actions
we must desist from as we
grow in Christ.
What can I learn from the lives of these
men?
1. God is gracious – He can save, choose
and use anybody, even the nobody like me,
by the power of His grace and mercy.
2. I have to totally surrender everything to
God – just EVERYTHING!
3. I have to fight and win my own personal
battle, because my greatest enemy is ME,
MINE AND MYSELF.
1 John 4:4

You, dear children, are from
God and have overcome
them, because the one who is
in you is greater than the one
who is in the world.
2 Corinto 10:4-5
Ang sandatang ginamit namin sa
pakikipaglaban ay hindi sandatang
makamundo, kundi ang kapangyarihan ng
Diyos na nakakapagpabagsak ng mga
kuta. Sinisira namin ang mga maling
pangangatuwiran, ginagapi namin ang
lahat ng pagmamataas laban sa
kaalaman tungkol sa Diyos, at binibihag
namin ang lahat ng isipan upang
matutong sumunod kay Cristo.

Ephesians 6:13-15
13
Therefore take up the whole armor of
God, that you may be able to
withstand in the evil day, and having
done all, to stand.
14
Stand therefore, having girded your
waist with truth, having put on the
breastplate of righteousness,
15
and having shod your feet with the
preparation of the gospel of peace;
Ephesians 6:16-18
16
above all, taking the shield of faith with
which you will be able to quench all the fiery
darts of the wicked one.
17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of
God;
18
praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to
this end with all perseverance
and supplication for all the saints.
