ENGLISH
What is a drama?
A drama is a type of literature that is written
for the purpose of being performed in front of
an audience.
This type of writing is written in the form of a
script, and the story is told through the lines of
the characters played by actors.
What are one-act plays?
Act - a part of a play defined by elements such as
rising action, climax, and resolution.

● They are similar to a short story in its limitations,


and there is a complete drama within one act.
● They are plays that take place only in one place and
generally take only less than an hour to present.

THEME
The central idea of a story, or the general
idea about life that the story reveals.

SETTING
• By giving details about time and place, setting of a play can
provide important clues to the theme of the story.

CHARACTER AND
CHARACTERIZATION
• The way a character in a story grows or changes is often a
key to the theme.

Romeo Montague: sensitive, witty and intelligent individual,


with passion as his tragic flaw
Juliet Capulet: naïve, fierce determination, and unwavering
loyalty
PLOT
• This refers to the chain of events that take place in a story.

In the play, both Romeo and Juliet struggled against their


respective families and opted for individual fulfilment. They
defied unbelievable problems to be married, to consummate
their marriage and live united for eternity.
CONFLICT
• Refers to a struggle between two opposing forces.
• Internal - a character struggles with their own opposing
desires or beliefs.
• External - a character against something or someone
beyond their control.

DIALOGUE
• Each line must be crafted carefully to focus on the theme, the
incident, and the character of the protagonist.

“I fear too early, for my mind misgives; some consequence, yet


hanging in the stars, shall bitterly begin”

“Deny thy father and refuse thy name,” Juliet asks, “Or if thou wilt
not, be but sworn my love, / And I’ll no longer be a Capulet”
STAGE DIRECTIONS
• These are sets of instructions that explain where and how
actors should move and speak.
• They may also be about the scenery, props, lighting, costume,
music, or sound effects.
ATMOSPHERE
• A certain type of feeling based on the details from the story
such as setting, background objects, and foreshadowing.
