SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORM

 It is a thunderstorm characterised by the presence of a


mesocyclone[a deep,persistently rotating updraft.
 Due to this,these storms are sometimes referred to as
rotating thunderstorm.
 Among the four type of thunderstorm,it is the overall
least common and have the potential to be the most
severe.
 It can dominate the local weather upto
32kms away(20 miles)
 They tends to last for 2 to 4 hrs

 It is most common in the “Great plains


of US”
 In US it is know as “TORNADO
ALLEY”

CLASSIFICATIONS

•It is classified into three types.They


are
1.Classic(normal preciption level)
2.Low precpition : Found in arid areas
3.High Precipition :Found in humid areas
IMPACTS OF SUPERCELL THUNDERSTROM

It can produce Hail Stones averaging as long as 2 inches in


diameter (5.1cm)
Wind speed :70 miles per hrs
Flooding,frequent to continuous Lightening and very heavy
rain
