Title of the project : Wearable Device -Football Player Smart
Tracker and Analyzer

Problem statement
• Every player have a certain skill that should be monitored and, to some extent, improved. It
could be challenging for the trainer or manager to evaluate each player individually during
practice or a game.
• The sum of money involved is also substantial because sponsors spend a lot to advertise their
brands and fans spend a lot on entertainment. They invest virtually billions of dollars in player
training. Even though there aren't many technologies yet, such stamina monitoring systems,
they are simply too expensive and solely measure the players' physical characteristics.

Needs of tracker and analyzer

• It provides an effective and efficient method of measuring the external workload of the
players, allowing coaches to have holistic workload management.
• It helps to understand strength, limitations and potential of players for making smart decisions.
• It is easy to use, it measures a variety of training metrics and it can produce feedback based
on data. Together this can inform coaches about physical conditioning and appropriate
recovery time during intense training.

Objective of the Project:
• To facilitate Coach/Trainer/Player to visualize the data remotely when stored in cloud.
• To enable easy teaching of tactical moves to players at a high degree of specialization.
• To identify the players' distinctive characteristics.
• Injuries during play could be avoided to a larger extent
• Get football specific metrics – track technical and physical aspects of game
• Track the progress over time – monitor the trends of stats and see the development in
comparison to previous sessions.
• Compare and benchmark – Compare past and present performances with teammates, friends
and elites.

• Performance tracking program allows to:

1. Focus on the needs of specific athletes and provide better individual development
2. Structure more effective training sessions to keep their athletes fresh and engaged
3. Design more informed off-season training programs
4. Use performance data to make more informed coaching decisions in-game

Methodology(Flow chart/ Work Flow /algorithms)

• Firstly, we use wearable sensors to obtain information data from football players. Inertial
sensors comprise an accelerometer (to measure accelerations and force), a gyroscope (to
measure rotation), and a magnetometer (to measure body orientation). All three sensors
collect data in three axes, or directions, allowing sensitive ‘maps’ of athlete movements and
actions to be created.

• Secondly, the athlete’s data are fed into the app for prediction and then inputted to the
coaches, respectively, to get advice and sports training mechanism advice. Finally, according
to the two suggestions, the final prediction of football players is made in order to formulate a
reasonable training plan.

Progress till date
Till now we have read research papers and noted how the components used in project will work.

• GY-9250  The GY-9250 is a 9-axis Motion Tracking device that combines a 3-axis gyroscope,
3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis magnetometer and a Digital Motion Processor™ (DMP) all in a
small 3x3x1mm package available as a pin-compatible upgrade from the GY-6515. With its
dedicated I2C sensor bus, the GY-9250 directly provides complete 9-axis MotionFusion
output.
• ESP8266 Wifi module (optional) It will serve as Access Point (AP Mode), meaning it will
provide access to Wi-Fi network to other devices (stations) and connects them further to a
wired network.

Work done till date

• The task of surveying the 9 research papers has been completed and final blue print of the
Literature Survey is created.
• The Research Paper has been written with guidance of the mentor and the plagiarism
detection has been executed roughly on the available plag-check sites.
• Compatible hardware procurement has been done with the discussion of mentor:
MPU-9250 - 9 axis inertial sensor
ESP 8266 - WIFI module

• Simulation of the different sensor has been implemented on the ThinkSpeak simulators.
• Hard Copy of first two chapters have been presented to the mentor and checked thoroughly.

Work Done Till Date

• The task we have performed till today is – Hardware Circuit Implementation and Data
Collection.
• We have collected each components required and got a rough setup of our project and made
sure that it is cost effective.
• Preprocessing of the data and its presentation had been done.
• ThinkSpeak channel for the presentation of the data and its visual graphics had been done.

Our group members have the following responsibilities –

 Kavya: Integration of modules and Hardware Implementation.
 Nishant Rai: Developing Realtime Monitoring Website.
 Rishabh Kumar: Coding and collection of Realtime data .

COMMUNICATION
Work to be done till next presentation

• Data analysis and visualization using Machine Learning Algorithms.

• Representation of the comparable data for the players.
• Encapsulation of the Hardware on the Wearable Device.
• Realtime data collection of the parameters.
