Objective
 The objective of this presentation is to
introduce you about the basics of gas
turbine combustion inspection
COMBUSTION COMPONENTS
 COMBUSTION LINERS
 FUEL NOZZLES
 TRANSITION PIECES
 CROSSFIRE TUBES
Combustion Liners Ass’y

Combustion Liner Repair
Replacement of
 Crossfire tube collar
 Spring seal or leaves
 Cowl cap
 Weld repair of
cracks(GTAW)
Fuel nozzle
 Fuel nozzle basically contains four
connections.
 Liquid fuel line.
 Gas fuel line.
 Atomizing air line.
 Purge air line.

What to look for

 Deposits
 Plugged orifices
 Erosion
 Corrosion

Fuel Nozzle – cleaning & checking
 Nozzle is cleaned and following are
checked:
 Gas fuel flow
 Liquid fuel flow & spray pattern
 Atomizing air flow
Crossfire Tube
What to look for
 Distortion
 Cracks
 Burning

Transition Piece
Common defects
 Cracks due to thermal stresses.
 Transition piece deformed.
 Hot spots.
 Deposits.
 Missing metal.
Remedies
 Cracks are repaired by welding.
 If the transition pieces are out of
round,or deformed they are rejected.
