STUDY AND ANALYSIS OF

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
IMPROVISING THE WAY FRUITS AND VEGETABLES TRAVEL
FROM FARMER’S FIELD TO OUR PLATES
PRESENT SCENARIO:
• At the time,the world has a population of over 7 billion,requiring
overwhelming amounts of food including fruits and vegetables to be
produced. As the farmers try meeting the demand, there are many
challenges they face-depreciation in the quality of fruits and
vegetables which are highly perishable as the produce is to be
transported to long distances to the retail markets.
• In this process, supply chain management comes into practice as it
allows better refrigeration facilities ,faster produce pick up,better and
streamlined transport and ultimately easy sale at the retail points.
A LOOK AT THE PROCESS:
• While fruits and vegetables are shifted from one place to
another, roughly 25-30 % of it perishes and becomes garbage.
• Leading to lower supply ,consequently higher prices, and malnutrition
and hunger amongst other issues.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION

• It is the longer time that it takes to travel from the farmer to the
consumer that creates the problem at the first place.
• If by way of multifaceted solutions this time can be reduced then the
benefits can be reaped by both the farmer and the consumer and
unnecessary intermediaries can be eliminated.
