CARDUSS MARIANUS

• Cardus marianus is the holy thistle sometimes called St.
Mary's Thistle
• Family :- Compositae
• It is native of southern Europe and grown plentifully in
waste places.
• It was a medicine in use since older times. It was originally
proved by Dr.Reil of Germany
• The tincture is prepared from the ripe seeds. The seeds are
covered with twice their weight of dilute alcohol and left in
an well –stoppered bottle for a few days, the contents
being regularly shaken. This is filtered and strained and we
have the mother tincture of CARDUS MARIANUS.

COMPLAINTS WHICH ARE SECONDARY TO
LIVER AFFECTIONS
CLINICALS
Bronchitis,Dropsy,Epistaxis.Fever.Gallstones.
Haemorrhoids. Influenza.Jaundice.liver-affection
of.Metrorrhagia,neuralgia.rhuematism.varicose
veins and ulcers.
Spleen affections of.Hemoptysis,Cholecystitis.
Cholelithiasis,Hepatitis
Diseases of miners, associated with asthma

IS SUBJECT TO ATTACKS OF BILIOUS VOMITING

MIND
• Forgets what he has just intended to do,-
Disposition to become angry-Melancholy with
liver affections-Joyless ; apathetic
HEAD
• Great giddines, with tendency to fall forward.>
by epistaxis- fulness in head with dull
headache,esp.in forehead or
temples,confusion,vertigo.- pressure in
forehead, over eye, in occiput.- Constriction
around skull ; over eyebrows.- Pain in parietal
lobe
EYES
• Burning and pressure in eyeballs and lids.-
pressure as if eyeballs were pressed against
side of orbits
NOSE
• Tickling first in right then left
• Nostril with watery discharge from same
• Burning in nostrils-Epistaxis: habitual in psoric
young persons
• Sudden profuse epistaxis, relieving vertigo.
FACE
• Heat in face- Earthy, yellowish-grey, dirty or
florid complexion
STOMACH
• Taste bitter. Aversion to salt meat. Appetite
small; tongue furred; nausea; retching ;
vomiting of green, acid fluid. Stitches in left
side of stomach, near spleen (Ceonath)
• Gallstone disease with enlarged liver
ABDOMEN
• Pain in region of liver. Left lobe very sensitive
• Fullness and soreness, with moist skin.
• Constipation; stools hard, difficult, knotty;
alternates with diarrhea. Stools bright yellow.
• Swelling of gall bladder with painful
tenderness.
• Hyperemia of liver, with jaundice
• Cirrhosis, with dropsy
• The most important of all the liver symptoms.
• Dragging pain in right hypochondrium when lying
on left side ; like ARN., Mag.m , Nat.S and Ptelea
• Pressing,drawing,stitching in right lobe of liver.
This remedy establishes a healthy flow of bile,
and thereby cures the condition that favors the
formation of gall stones. It has many times
broken up the tendency to gall stone colic
• Liver enlargement in transverse direction(in
Cheli; more vertical)
RECTUM
• Hemorrhagic piles, prolapse of rectum burning
pain in anus and rectum, hard and knotting
clayey stools
• Profuse diarrhea due to rectal cancer
URINE
• CLOUDY; GOLDEN COLOURED
CHEST
• Stitching pain in lower right ribs and
front;worse,moving,walking,etc. Asthmatic
respiration. Pain in chest, going to shoulders,
back, loins and abdomen, with urging to
urinate
SKIN
• Itching on lying down at night
• Varicose ulcers(Clematis erecta).
• Eruption on lower part of sternum
EXTREMITIES
• Pain in hip-joint spreading through buttocks
and down thigh; worse from raising,stooping
and motion.
• Difficult rising
• Weakness felt in feet, especially after sitting

RELATIONS
• CHELIDONIUM;
1. Stitching pain in liver and spleen
2. Gall stones
3. Clayey stools
4. Vertigo with bilious vomiting and pain in liver
5. Stitches beneath right ribs (Card.M-right ribs)
6. Liver enlargement in vertical direction
• Aloes:
1. Pain in liver; agg-on standing
2. Stitches in the liver, when drawing a long
breath
3. Heaviness heat, pressing ,burning in the
rectum
4. Hemorrhoidal tumors, protrude like bunch of
grapes
• PODOPHYLLUM:
1. Pain in liver with inclination to rub the part with
hand
2. Stitches in right hypochondria agg; while eating.
3. Excessive secretion of bile, great irritability of
liver.
4. Jaundice, with gall stones
5. Prolapse of rectum before or with stools
6. Constipation : clay colored , hard ,dry,
alternating with diarrhea
• PHOSPHORUS:
1. Acute yellow atrophy of liver
2. Burning in rectum
3. Jaundice
4. Alternate diarrhea and constipation in old
people
5. Copious debilitating diarrhoea
6. Bleeding haemorrhoids
• NUX VOMICA :
1. Prolapse of rectum from diarrhoea
2. Stitches in region of liver agg; from motion
3. Jaudice and gallstones
4. Diarrhea with jaundice
5. Pressure and stinging in region of liver
6. Alternate constipation and diarrhea after
abuse of purgatives
7. Itching blind haemorrhoids with urge to stool
• CALCAREA CARB:
1. Gall stone colic
2. Pain in liver Agg; Stooping
3. Evacuations like clay, in small quantity
• Lycopodium:
1. Pain in liver as from a blow agg: by touch
2. Violent gall stone colic
3. Liver region sensitive
• MERC-SOL:
1. Liver ; enlarged, sore; indurated
2. Jaundice
• CHELONE:
1. Pain and soreness of the left lobe of liver and extending downwards
• CARDUSS BENEDICTUS:
• Strong action on eyes
• Sensation of contraction in many parts
• Some of similar stomach symptoms with
Card.M:
1. Bitter taste
2. Appetite bad; nausea and vomiting
Spleen aspects
• Ceanothous americanus:
1. Enormous enlargement of the spleen
2. Splenitis : pain all up the left side
3. Dull pain in region of spleen
4. Pain in liver agg: on right side
• Chionanthus virginica:
1. Enlarged spleen
2. Liver enlarged with un easy ache and jaundice
3. Constipation : clay- coloured stools
4. Chronic cases of jaundice – jaundice recurring every
summer
5. Gall stone colic
• Bryonia:
1. Bleeding of nose(Epistaxis) esp just before
beginning of menses
2. Shooting in region of spleen
3. Liver heavy,sore,swollen amel;lying on it
• Sanguinaria:
Violent stitches in spleen
