Carrageenan induced paw edema model

Requirements
• Albino Rat (200-250gm)
• Digital Plethysmometer
• Carrageenan Solution 1% (o.1ml)
• Aspirin (300mg/kg)

Principle
Procedure
• 0.1 ml of 1% carrageenan solution in normal saline is injected to the sub plantar tissue of the
left hind paw of the rat.

• The paw volumes of the rat are measured using Digital Plethysmometer at intervals of
5min,10 and 15min.

• The anti-inflammatory agent is administered orally by using feeding tube.

• Wait for at least 15mins.

• Again measured the paw volumes of the rats at 30mins, 35 and 40 mins.
