PROBLEM STATEMENT
To increase the strength, soundness, bonding with mortar of the
paver block using metal scrap.
SOLUTION OF PROBLEM
• We have made this product to make low cast bricks and to reduce demand of
coarse aggregate and to increase its quality.

• By using the metal scrap , the characteristics of the concrete mix is enhanced .

• It is increased in its strength and thus the tear and wear is reduced.

• The cement mix ratio can be used for other cast which can be used in sidewalls
in bridges ,retaining walls etc, where it’s strength is increased.
MATERIAL REQUIRED

Aggregate of 8mm-13 mm.(3Kg)

Metal scrap (800 gr)
Fine aggregate (2 Kg)
Water (800 ml)
Mould
METHODOLOGY
The manufacturing process for cement concrete metal scrap pavement blocks includes
administration, mixing, moulding and curing.
Administration-
Step 1:
Metal scrap is collected from the lathe lab in mechanical department .
Step 2 :
Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) grade 53 taken from the structural.
Step 3 :
Fine aggregate(M-sand) available in the structural lab.
Step 4 :
Coarse aggregate 8mm -13mm available in the soil lab.

METHODOLOGY
Mixing-

Step 1 :
A concrete mixture with a volume of 1:2: 3:0.75 (cement: sand: aggregate: waste metal).
Step 2 :
Place all ingredients on table and mix concrete for 15 minutes as ordinary paver block.
Step 3:
Mix the cement mortar and mix waste metal as small pieces and mix it thoroughly .
METHODOLOGY
Moulding-

Step 1 :
As it is mixed well.
Step 2 :
Place all ingredients on table and mould on table .
Step 3:
Put these mixture as three layer, want to tapped 25 times for each
layer to avoid air void present in it.
METHODOLOGY
Curing-

Step 1 :
When the mixture is loaded in mould . let in be left for 2-3 days in mould.
Step 2 :
After drying in atmosphere, we take out the product from mould and to do the curing process
for 24 day.
Step 3:
How many times we curing the paver block the strength of it increases as much as.
Properties of normal paver block
• Strength - 42.27 MPa
• Hardness -3.50N/mm2
• Soundness -Two bricks are struck each other,
sound produced should be clear bell ringing sound and brick
should not break.
• Drop test -From 4 Feet height we drop a brick
that does not break then the brick is of good quality.
TESTS-
All tests will be carried out :
• Compressive test
• Pull out test
• Hardness test
• Soundness test
• Water absorption test
• Roughness test
Compressive test:
Compressive test Normal paver block Metal scrap paver block

Unit (MPa)  55 62.3

These test is taken after 24 days curing at compressive test

machine in strength of material laboratory.
Water absorption test:
• Deduct the original "dry" weight figure from the final "wet" weight
figure to ascertain the weight of water absorbed by the block during the
test period.
S Dry Wet Water Absorption
No weight Kg weight Kg %

1 4.400 4.568 3.82

2 4.400 4.685 6.48
3 4.400 4.793 8.94

• Water Absorption% = (Wet weight – Dry weight)/(dry

weight) x 100
SCOPE AND USES:

• Pavers can be used to create driveways, patios, and walkways.

• Retaining walls, raised beds, and other yard features can be built using paving
• blocks.
• The aesthetic appeal of outdoor spaces can also be enhanced through the
• careful use of pavers to accentuate positive features and disguise minor
• blemishes, such as metal window wells.
• The concrete mix can also be used for other blocks which are used for
• construction of side walls of the flyovers.
• It can withstand load more than normal concrete mix.
