CONTENT

1. Reference: Section 10.2.6.7 of the Revised Implementing


Rules and Regulations of RA 9514.

2. Para A.1 Section 10.2.6.7 of the Revised Implementing


Rules and Regulations (RIRR) of RA 9514 also known as the
Fire Code of the Philippines of 2008 states that “ Automatic
Sprinklers if required by Division 8 through 20 of this Chapter
shall be in accordance with NFPA 13, Standard for the
Installation of Sprinkler Systems or NFPA 13R, Standard for the
Installation of Sprinkler Systems Low Rise Residential
Occupancies.”

CONTENT

3. Relative thereto, be informed that the following NFPA 13


(2022 Edition) provision shall apply, to wit:

3.1 Section 9.2.11- Equipment Enclosures:


Sprinklers shall not be required to be installed within
electrical equipment, mechanical equipment, or air
handling units not intended for occupancy.

Equipment having access for routine


maintenance should not be considered as intended
for occupancy.

CONTENT

3.2 Section 9.2.6- Electrical Equipment Rooms:


Sprinklers shall not be required in electrical
equipment rooms where all of the following conditions
are met:

(1) The room is dedicated to electrical equipment


only.
(2) Only dry-type or liquid type with listed K-class fluid
electrical equipment is used.
(3) Equipment is installed in a 2-hour fire rated
enclosure including protection for penetration.
(4) Storage is not permitted in the room.

CONTENT

Electrical room means an isolated room or


enclosure, with outside access, built to applicable
codes to house associated electrical equipment such
as meter installation equipment, customer’s electrical
service, transformer, etc.

Dry-type electrical equipment (no oils), is dedicated


to electrical equipment only, is fire-resistant to reduce
fire spread, and the room has no storage hazard.

K-class fluids are “less flammable liquid” with flash


point >300 ͦ C֯

4. Fire protection separation (floor, wall, and ceiling) shall


conform to fire resistive standards as shown in Table 52 of the
RIRR of RA 9514.

5. Electrical equipment room, with or without AFSS, shall be


protected with appropriate type of Fire Extinguisher.

6. All Regional Chief, FSES/U are required to disseminate


this guidelines physically or through zoom platform to their
respective Fire Safety Enforcers. Submit activity report on your
action taken to the Directorate for Fire Safety Enforcement at
email dfse.nhq@bfp.gov.ph copy furnish fsed.dfse@bfp.gov.ph.
