from On-Premises to Microsoft Azure

Introduction

• Azure Migration refers to the process of moving applications,

data, workloads, and infrastructure from on-premises
environments or other cloud platforms to Microsoft Azure,
Microsoft's cloud computing platform. Azure Migration enables
organizations to leverage the benefits of cloud computing,
including scalability, flexibility, security, and cost-efficiency.
• It can be any Server, technology
Why Consider Azure Migration:

• 1. Scalability: Azure allows you to scale resources up or down based on

demand, ensuring optimal performance.
• Flexibility: Easily adjust your infrastructure and services as your
business needs evolve.
• Cost-Efficiency: Pay only for what you use, reducing upfront hardware
and maintenance costs.
• Global Reach: Azure offers data centers worldwide, enabling you to
reach customers globally.
• Security and Compliance: Benefit from Azure's robust security
measures and compliance certifications.
Azure Migration Strategies:

• Rehost (Lift and Shift): Move applications as-is to Azure virtual

machines. Minimal changes to code are required.
• Refactor (Replatform): Optimize applications for Azure services while
making minor code changes.
• Rearchitect (Rebuild): Completely rebuild applications using Azure-
native services for maximum benefits.
• Replace (Drop and Shop): Replace existing applications with Azure
Marketplace solutions.
• Retire: Decommission applications that are no longer needed.
Azure Migration Steps

• Assessment: Evaluate your existing environment, applications, and dependencies to plan the migration
strategy.
• Planning: Develop a detailed migration plan, considering timelines, resources, and potential challenges.
• Migration: Execute the migration strategy, which may involve provisioning Azure resources, transferring
data, and setting up networking.
• Testing: Validate the migrated applications and workloads to ensure they function correctly in Azure.
• Optimization: Fine-tune and optimize the Azure environment for performance, security, and cost-efficiency.
• Validation: Thoroughly test the optimized environment to ensure it meets your business requirements.
• Go-Live: Migrate users and applications to the Azure environment, carefully managing the transition.
• Post-Migration Tasks: Monitor and manage the Azure environment, implement ongoing security practices,
and continue optimization.
Azure Migration Tools:

• Azure Migrate: A central hub for assessment and migration, providing

insights into on-premises workloads.
• Azure Site Recovery: Replicate on-premises workloads to Azure for
disaster recovery and migration.
• Azure Database Migration Service: Simplifies database migration to
Azure SQL Database and Azure Database for MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Azure Data Box: Physical data transfer solution for large-scale data
migration.
Best Practices

• Start Small: Begin with a pilot project or less critical workloads to gain
experience.
• Assessment: Thoroughly assess your existing environment and dependencies
before migration.
• Security: Implement Azure security best practices to protect your resources and
data.
• Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize your Azure environment for
performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Training: Provide training to your IT team to ensure they are well-equipped to
manage Azure resources.

Provide Hyper-V host/cluster details
You can add both Hyper-V host and clusters as discovery sources. If you add a
host that is a part of a cluster, the cluster is detected and added to the list. For a
successfully validated Hyper-V host/cluster, you can view more details by
clicking on its IP Address/ FQDN in the table below.
