food you eat, into the nutrient…

Digestive System includes what

 The digestive system is made up of the gastrointestinal

tract, also called the GI tract or digestive tract. And the
stomach, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder.
 The GI tract is a series of hollow organs joined in a long,
twisting tube from the mouth to the anus.

3
Food Pathway

 The mouth is the beginning of the digestive tract. In

fact, digestion starts here as soon as you take the first
bite of a meal.
 Throat Also called the pharynx, the throat is the next
destination for food you've eaten

4
Food Pathway

 The esophagus is a muscular tube extending from the

pharynx to the stomach. By means of a series of
contractions, called peristalsis, the esophagus delivers
food to the stomach.
 The stomach is a sac-like organ with strong muscular
walls. In addition to holding the food, it's also a mixer
and grinder.

5
Food Pathway
 The stomach slowly empties its contents, called chyme,
into your small intestine. Small intestine. The muscles of
the small intestine mix food with digestive juices from
the pancreas, liver, and intestine, and push the mixture
forward for further digestion.

6
Liver
 The liver regulates most chemical levels in the blood and
excretes a product called bile. This helps carry away waste
products from the liver. All the blood leaving the stomach
and intestines passes through the liver.
 It also storing nutrients and protein synthesis.
 The liver has many functions, but its main job within
the digestive system is to process the nutrients absorbed from
the small intestine. Bile from the liver secreted into the small
intestine also plays an important role in digesting fat and
some vitamins.
