Nicholas Sparks is an American
novelist and screenwriter. He has
published 22 novels and 2 non-
fiction books. Some of which have
been New York Times best sellers.
With over 115 million copies sold The Notebook: is a 1996
worldwide in more than 50 romantic novel that focuses on
languages. Eleven of his novels are love, commitment and
adapted in films. sacrifice. The novel also
presents a vivid description of
old age and its problems.
 AIM
● To analyse the relationship
between the main characters and
the physical environment.
OBJECTIVES
● To investigate how the writer presents
ethical and aesthetic influence of nature.
● To explore the cultural difference that
exists between rural and urban scenes in
the novel.
 LITERATURE REVIEW
Ecocriticism defines itself as a practice of reading literature from an earth-
centered (rather than human-centered) perspective(“ Ecocriticism and its
importance”).

Ecocriticism speaks for the voiceless earth(Frederick).

Like a puzzle within a puzzle, the story of Noah and Allie is just beginning.
as it unfolds, their tale miraculously becomes something different, with much
higher stakes(“The Bookish Elf”).
 METHODOLOGY

● The study will be conducted in Qualitative Research.

● The novel The Notebook by Sparks is going to be the primary source.

● Articles, book reviews, journals and other novels of Nicholas Sparks are
going to be used as secondary source.

● The ecocritical theory and its different approaches will also be included in
this research.
DIVISION OF THE CHAPTERS
CHAPTER#1:
Introduces the novel and the topic.

CHAPTER#2:
Presents the literature review related to the topic.

CHAPTER#3:
Examines the relationship between the main characters and their environment.

CHAPTER#4:
Explores the values and ethical implications transmitted through scenic description.

CHAPTER#5:
Concludes the thesis.
 CONCLUSION

The purpose behind this study is to see that

the love story is closely linked with nature
and characters are also product of their
environment.
