Author: Clive Staples Lewis (C.S LEWIS)

Title: An exploration of myths and aspects of

fantasy: A study of C.S. Lewis’s the chronicles of
Narnia, the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe.
Introduction
This research is a study based on the Chronicles

of Narnia by CS Lewis published in 1950. The

Chronicles delve into a world of mythology and

fantasy that Lewis created, drawing strongly

from various classical mythologies, focusing on

the different characteristics of the myths that he

had employed to frame the magical land of

Narnia.
Aim & objectives
AIM OBJECTIVES

This research is aimed to explore the 1. To describe the characteristics, functions, and kinds
mythological elements and different aspects of fantasy represented in Lewis’ The Chronicles of

of fantasy in the chronicles of Narnia, the Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

lion, the witch, and the wardrobe.

2-This study details the distinct aspects of Mythology

that Lewis has used to bring the Chronicles to life.

Jackson (1981: 54) argues that the fantasy genre is the literature of subversion and is able to have countercultural
effects. Those things that are made silent, that are repressed and made invisible in the actual world, because they are
unacceptable, are evident in fantasy literature. In this way, fantasy literature is able to address and examine real-world
issues, and provide an exploration of contemporary society.

Northrop Fyre argue that the things that happen in myth are things that happen only in stories; they are in a self-
contained literary world. Hence myth would naturally have the same kind of appeal for the fiction writer that folk
tales have (Barad).
Methodology:
Qualitative

a content analysis technique.

the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe

WORK CITED LIST

CONCLUSION
This research concludes the characteristics which
characterize the novel as a work of fantasy literature
are the story, common characters, an evocation of
another world, the use of magic and supernatural
power, a clear sense of good and evil, and quests.

Using Lewis’ concepts of myth, the narratives of

Narnia's Chronicles establish a true and living
narrative, conveyed using verbal, natural or
prophetic means.
