Important Tips
● Most important things on left and top, use reverse chronological order
(generally).
● Start all sentences with action words (initiated, ideated, led, etc.)
● Always try to bring out the impact of the work you’ve done, define impact
quantitatively
● Sentence structure = impact you created + how you did it
● Try filling sentences till the end to get a justified type alignment
● Maintain uniformity in formatting (eg: date styles, headings, etc.)
● Use BOLD to only highlight the important things

Final Thoughts
● Add your Codechef, Codeforces ranks and achievements.
● Make sure people who aren't familiar with Codechef/Codeforces can
understand how hard this is. Eg: Secured Global rank 120 out of 28k+
participants in Codechef August Long Challenge in 2019. Or if you prefer you
can mention your rank/rating - top 4% of programmers on Codeforces
● Finally, present the most polished version of yourself.

Important Tips
● Different shortlisting criteria: CV/Test/Combination of both
● Spikes in your resume: academic/extracurricular/both
● Certifications such as CFA and FRM may give you an edge but are
● NOT the only factor of consideration
● Helpful to have a balanced and well-rounded CV that depicts inclination
towards finance
● Do not be discouraged if you do not have prior finance internships,
● It is very important to give your best shot, anyone can be considered for Quant
roles based on Math and Puzzles Questions.
Internships & Projects
● If you have a finance angle to your project, make it a point to highlight the
same
● If your projects are unrelated to finance, try to highlight analytics aspects
● Bold any finance related terms you are confident about
● Be extremely thorough with your CV, they do enquire about all details in depth
● Try mentioning about your own equities portfolio, if any
Skills/Courses
● Important Skills: Financial Modelling, Excel, Powerpoint, Python, R and SQL
● Important Courses: Corporate Finance, Asset Classes, Financial Risk
Management, Derivatives and Options Pricing, Equity Research, Mergers and
Acquisitions, Valuation
General Tips
● It's crucial to keep in touch with world news and financial news and
understand how macro factors affect each asset class.
● Recommended to have a stock pitch in the form of a deck ready to present, just
in case.
● Math errors are unacceptable in interviews
● Read Damodaran’s Valuation Text and Finance books like Rich Dad Poor Dad,
Intelligent Investor etc. to develop and intuition for finance
● Solve all sources of puzzles, 4-5 times to an extent that you have learnt them

General Tips
● More often than not, you decide the flow of the interview.
● List the projects you know in and out in detail and try to steer the conversation there.
● Explain it to me like I’m five.
● Have a folder with demos, photos, simulations, etc. to explain the projects you’ve done.
● Try to build a flow and relate different projects.
● In the coursework section & interview, specify those subjects which you’re comfortable with.
● Don’t mention anything (values, technical terms, etc.) which you think you won’t be able to defend.
● For situation-based/behavioural questions, prepare a concise answer by relating to your past experience.
● Prior to the interview, spend some time to get to know about the company and job description.
● Design your responses to show the extent of your relevance to this profile.
● Prepare for guesstimates. Some interviewers do ask such questions.
Internships & Projects
● Decide the order based on the impact / your contributions, relevance to the
industry, and the company/university where you’ve worked.
● If possible, adhere to the STAR method to describe your contributions in the
CV & the interview.
● Prefer quantifiable results over abstract terms since they attract the
interviewer’s attention.
● Prefer those projects/internships which are relevant to the industry over
hardcore research.

General Tips
● Keep your CV to a strict one-page
● Order of sub-headings is crucial, always put your strongest foot on top
● Aesthetic issues like grammatical errors, spacing errors etc. should be absent
● Follow a consistent font style, size and spacing regimen
● Try to quantify the impact of your work ( include numbers)
● Frame sentences in a manner, that people not related to the field of work are able to understand
as well
● Start all sentences with an action verb (check MIT career services list of action verbs for help)
● Whenever you have an option, do submit a cover letter along with your CV
● Use Bolds ( 1-2 per line) and Underlines ( 1-2 for the whole CV) to highlight important and
must read items
Internships & Projects
● Brand names matter for corporate internships! Highlight brand internships as
much as possible
● Structure your sentences well, eg., Line-1: Overall Impact, Line 2: Description
of process, Line 3 & 4: Value added
● Entrepreneurial Experiences ( even if not successful by PnL ) are valued
● Try adding International Experiences, if any
Final Thoughts
● Be ready for cases or guesstimates related to what is on your CV. ( eg., a cricket
enthusiast may be asked to guesstimate the earnings of an IPL team)
● Read about the industries you have interned in ( Rate determining steps,
competitive landscape, major costs etc. ) to show business acumen
● Solve cases with a case partner
● Develop fluency in English and Mental Math ( refer Victor Cheng’s math tool)
● Prepare in advance for HR/ fit questions
