STATISTICS
-Ujjwal Singh
-:MATHEMATICIAN:-
There is no particular
mathematician behind the
theorems or properties of statistics,
but the inventor or founder of
graphs is William Playfair (1759-
1823). One more mathematician
who gave the graph theory before,
named Leonhard Euler (1707-
1783) and Rene Descartes
invented the Cardician Plane.
-:DATA:-
These facts or figures, which are
numerical or otherwise, collected with
a definite purpose are called data. Data
is the plural form of the Latin word
datum. The word ‘statistics’ appears to
have been derived from the Latin word
‘status’ meaning ‘a (political) state’. In
its origin, statistics was simply the
collection of data on different aspects
of the life of people, useful to the
State.
-:bar graph:-
Bar graphs are the pictorial
representation of data (generally
grouped), in the form of vertical or
horizontal rectangular bars, where
the length of bars are proportional
to the measure of data. They are
also known as bar charts. Bar
graphs are one of the means of
data handling in statistics.
-:histogram:-
A histogram is a graph used to
represent the frequency
distribution of a few data points
of one variable. Histograms
often classify data into various
“bins” or “range groups” and
count how many data points
belong to each of those bins.
-:frequency polygon:-

A frequency polygon is a

line graph of class
frequency plotted against
class midpoint. It can be
obtained by joining the
midpoints of the tops of the
rectangles in the histogram
