SOLID WASTE GENERATED
& ITS EFFECTS
REASONS FOR INCREASE IN SOLID WASTE

• Waste disposal is one of the major problems being faced by all

nations across the world

• The daily per capita solid waste generated in our country ranges
from about 300 g to 500 g

• Disposal of biodegradable waste can be achieved by several

means like incineration, landfills, dumping in the sea or other
water bodies, composting etc.

• These methods have their own hazards. One of the economic

ways would be to raise biogas plants on biodegradable waste.

INTRODUCTION TO
BIOGAS
BIOGAS

 It is a gas produced by organic matter in the absence of

oxygen (anaerobically)
 Biogas is also known “marsh gas” or “swamp gas”
 It is a renewable source of energy
 It is environmental friendly and CO2 neutral

BIODIGESTER

 It is a tank that processes organic material to produce

biogas

 It can come in different shapes and sizes depending upon

the need and local possibilities in building materials
MARKET APPLICATION AREAS OF BIOGAS

 Houses
 Hotels
 Hospitals
 Schools
 Factories
 Market
 Slaughter house
Canteens

FLOATING DRUM MODEL

 High Life Span

 High Efficiency
 Used for wide range of waste
MODIFIED UASB MODEL

• Advanced technology for

MSW waste

• Can be scaled upto any

capacity

• Can be used for different

feed stock

KMF, Bangalore
NISARGUNNA BARC MODEL

• Technology developed by Baba atomic research center , Mumbai

• Approved service provider for BARC

• Footprint area is minimized on scaling up the digestor

Cochin Shipyard, cochin

Containerized biogas plant

• Digester fabricated in shipping container with proper insulation

• Can be shifted according to the need

• Footprint area is minimized &plug flow reactor is used

National dairy research

institute, Bangalore
Compressed biogas project

• Technology developed by R & D , synod bioscience

• Cheapest CBG project available in india

• Biogas will be purified with 95 % pure methane and filled in cylinders and
sold out in market

• First commercially viable CBG project in south india implemented on

march of 2013 with a capacity of 20 MT MSW waste

• Presently scaled up to 75 MT

SATAT (SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVE TOWARDS AFFORDABLE TRANSPORTATION)

‘SATAT’ scheme on Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) encourages entrepreneurs to set up CBG

plants, produce & supply CBG to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) for sale as
automotive & industrial fuels.
