COVID-19 Office Deep Cleaning

Management Guidance MEA


This document is to guide Emerson MEA on enhanced cleaning and disinfection of an office / parts of an office when a suspected/confirmed
case of COVID-19 is encountered. This document is based on World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) and Hong Kong Center for Health Protection guidelines. Note: If your location has governmental issued guidelines for the public,
please follow them.
CLEANING COMPANY
 Cleaning should be conducted by a dedicated, specialized company. Facilities Management should investigate availability of office deep
cleaning services and capability with their current provider and decide on utilizing existing service contracts or retaining an alternative
provider.
FREQUENCY
 Deep cleaning of an office should be conducted on top of regular cleaning on a predetermined basis (recommended minimum of 1-2 times
per week) during situations of elevated risk of COVID-19 transmissions at an office location (office is located within a cluster of confirmed
cases or there is a high potential for individuals entering an office with exposure to areas of confirmed cases).
 Deep cleaning should be carried out if a suspected case / confirmed case has occurred at a Emerson office.
CLEANING STAFF PROTECTION
Cleaning staff should wear appropriate personal protection equipment including: Surgical mask; Latex gloves; Disposable gown; Eye
protection (goggles/face shield) and should be trained on such procedures.
ENHANCED CLEANING AND DISINFECTION
 Disinfect all potentially contaminated surfaces or items by using 1 in 49 diluted household bleach (mixing 1 part of household bleach
containing 5.25% sodium hypochlorite with 49 parts of water).
 Wipe down, clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as furniture, desks and commonly shared items.
 Special attention should be given to the following areas:
– Desk space: Chairs, desks, keyboards, computer screens, telephones and other items at a person’s work space.
– Printer area: Printer surfaces, printer buttons, staplers or other paper processing items.
– Kitchen area: Water fossettes, dishwasher buttons/handles, coffee machine surfaces and buttons, fridge, microwave and other
commonly used equipment.
– Lifts and escalators: Clean and wipe the inside of the lift and the escalator, pay special attention to the buttons and handrails.
– Lobby entrance: Clean and wipe the lobby entrance area, door handle / handle, password switch button, etc.
– Utilities: Clean and wipe the lobby / elevator waiting areas, corridors, common areas, chairs, lounges, mailboxes, and other public
facilities.
– Garbage room: Properly clean up every rubbish and waste. Clean and wipe the area and facilities of the garbage room.
