Virtue Ethics

What is Virtue?
Virtue is morally right and good that inclines us to whatever is good.
It is doing the right thing at the right time, in the right way, in the right amount
towards the right people.
How virtue is used in business?
Which virtues are most important to success in business?
How are they acquired?
How are they sustained, strengthened or weakened in organizations?
How do good leaders create environments that foster the development of critical
virtues among employees?
In business and one’s professional life,

we rely on or trust others to be disciplined and diligent in doing their part of a

team project.
We trust a manager to be transparent, honest, and fair in terms of performance
reviews and merit increases.
Why virtue ethics is important in business?
Because it provides managers and business leaders with an opportunity to ask
themselves what kind of people they become through their actions and how their
decisions impact the lives of others. It gives them a chance to consider what kind
of business environments and cultures they should build, how business goals,
policies and procedures foster positive or negative learning in their employees and
what kind of societies they contribute to developing through their operations and
the products and services they offer (Vuillemin, 2013).
Examples of Virtue Ethics “in business”
An employee who displays ethical behavior at work based on the virtues they hold
are often seen as more reliable and dependable by their superiors. Even though
that behavior is to be expected on the job, seeing examples of it at work can make
an employee stand-out from their colleagues.
