KANLAHI CENTER FOR CULTURE AND ARTS TARLAC

Problem Statement:
As a result of poor planning and lack of political commitment to preserve their unique local identities, many historic
cities have begun to deteriorate. Urban growth centers have focused their development strategies on profit-centric
policies that are constantly eroding the cultural arts and historical fabric of the region. This manifests itself in the
form of uneven economic growth, the destruction of historic buildings, and the eviction of locals to make room for
commercial and industrial development. The Poblacion of Tarlac, a city hungry for development but continuing to
ignore its rich historical history, is designated as the location of the future Central Business District of the province.
Little is being done to maintain it, and as locals continue to leave, vendors are being cleared out, and other old
structures are being demolished, the situation just becomes worse for the sake of the word “progress.”

Project Objectives:
- To promote physical and socio- economic development by bridging the social, cultural, and
economic facets of the locale (UN SDG #8)
- Architecture and arts as a bridging factor towards a city's approach to induce communal
learning within and outside the community (UN SDG #4)
- To serve as a context-dependent example of how we can develop our urban spaces, enriching
experiences, promoting culture, traditional arts and performing arts while ultimately
reintegrating the value back to the community. (UN SDG #17)

TOPIC 2
ARS MEDENDI: ART AND MUSIC AIDED TREATMENT CENTER
FOR MENTAL DISORDERS
Problem Statement:
Due to the uneven distribution of resources offered by the government, issues with mental health care often
disregarded in the Philippines. Defects in a person's personal development might make it difficult for them to
build strong relationships with others and communicate in social situations. Lack of medical assistance and
adequate facilities discourages patients from seeking treatment. There are numerous methods that can aid in
the complicated process of healing from disorders. According to research, the process of processing pain via
art can directly connect the mind and body to speed up the healing process.

Project Objectives:
- To provide a warm and inviting, safe environment that encourages art and music and
shows patients that life has so much more to offer than taking one's own life.  (UN SDG
3)
- To serve a dual aim of curing those with mental illnesses while also enhancing
environmental quality by employing art and music as therapy.(UN SDG #3)
- Aiding the mentally incapable with psychiatric treatment and simultaneously learning
new hobbies in relation to arts that will help gain self improvement. (UN SDG #3)

TOPIC 3
YLANG YLANG PERFUME EXTRACTOR FACILITY AND
TOURIST ATTRACTION
Problem Statement:
Since 1994, Anao has been pressing the oil from fresh lang ylang flowers. This year, they have lofty goals and
want to export more Ylang-ylang oil around the world. The Ylang Ylang flower, a representative species of
Anao Tarlac, is an endangered species, according to a declaration from the residents. Unfortunately, the small
town of Anao, which is known as the lang ylang capital, is unable to supply the demand at the time because so
little land is being used for tree cultivation. Additionally, farmers who are out in the fields are struggling to
keep the Ylang Ylang trees intact and stimulate their development. A year's supply of 36 liters of oil is
insufficient. The majority of the process is still run manually, which slows it down further.

Project Objectives:
- To take an action with the rising problem of insufficient supply and demand of the
endangered specie in Anao Tarlac. UN SDG #15)
- To provide an extractor and preservation facility of ylang ylang together with incorporating
the place with a tourist destination for their identity (UN SDG #17)
- To establish and operate a facility that contributes to green sustainable development
advocacies while tourists are having fun curating perfumes and other activities.(UN SDG #13)
