 1. Write the two complete thoughts
in two separate sentences.
Run-on:
The two men weren't dangerous criminals
they were detectives in disguise.

Correct:
The two men weren't dangerous criminals.
They were detectives in disguise.
2. Join the related
sentences with a comma
(,) or a semicolon (;) and
a conjunction
 *Using a semicolon (;) and a
subordinating conjunction
Run-on:
She often watches television when there’s a
replay, she prefers to read instead.
Correct:
She often watches television when there’s
a replay; however, she prefers to read instead.

 Remember
It is important to realize that the
length of a sentence
has nothing to do with whether a
sentence is a run-on
or not; being a run-on is a structural
error that can
exist even in a very short sentence.
