SPARE PARTS
ASSESSMENT & ESTIMATION

PJL _ Training & Development

OBJECTIVE

• The aim of spare parts management is to make available to

maintenance, the right spare part, at the right time, in the right
quantity, and at the lowest total cost to the enterprise.

• Forecasting time frame of procurement and in house of service parts to

the user to keep smooth plant running.
REASON

• Spare parts assessment is a tool that uses delivery time and cost,
downtime, lost production costs, and failure and repair data to
calculate the amount of spare parts you need to keep at any specific
time.
•  it enables you to fix issues quickly when they do happen, and, when
used alongside regular maintenance, it can help you to prevent faults
before they occur.
TYPES OF SPARE PARTS

The three basic types of spares parts are:

• (a) PM spares: Those replaced during preventive or opportunity
maintenance,
• (b) Repair Parts (Breakdown spares): those required to replace parts
that fail during service, and
• (c) Overhaul (Shutdown) Parts: Those required during planned
overhaul or shut down of the plant
Different aspects of Spare Parts assessment:

• How likely the machine is to break down

• How essential it is to your operation
• The parts that are most commonly replaced
• How parts will be accessed, identified, and replaced
• How long will it take you to get a part if you buy it when it’s needed:
