INTRODUCTION
• Mahesana is a district in Gujarat located in the north-western part of the state. It
share border with other districts such as Ahmedabad, Patan, and Gandhinagar
• Asia’s second largest dairy “Dudhsagar Milk
Cooperative Dairy” and largest market yard
“Unjha” is located in Mehsana.
• It is also well known for breeding buffalos which
are famous as Mehsani breed in entire Gujarat.
•  Minerals : bricks clay, china clay
(crude and impure), sand, granite, quartzite,
limestone, etc
• Mehsana is largest producer of lemon and fennel seeds while it is the third largest
producer of tomatoes in the state.

Principal cash crops include potato, cotton, Tobacco, Oilseeds, castor seeds, cumin
psylliumse and Anise.
•Forest Area: 7175 Ha.
•Soil Types: Alluvial, sandy loam.
•Cultivable Land: 4700 Ha.
Almost 53.29% of working population engaged in agriculture sector out of which 43.85
are cultivators and 56.15% are agriculture laborers. Almost 88.56 of cultivators and
61.65% of the agricultural laborers are male. Out of cropped are 84.60% of area is
irrigated and 48.11% of irrigation is shared by food crops and 51.88% of irrigation is
shared by non food crops.
Till now the commission has drilled 153 wells, in the structure, out of which about 105
wells have been completed as oil wells, 15 as gas wells, and the remaining wells are
under proper testing/stimulation/observation.

The total reported area of Mahesana is 439153 hectares, of which 1.63% is forest,
1.19% is barren land, 7.18% is under non agricultural use, 83.88% is cultivable
land, 6.12% is grazing land and 4.33% is uncultivable land.

TRANSPORTATION PROFILE
 Road : Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) buses also connect
Mehsana to other cities and villages. Auto rickshaws and taxis are available. . The
city has 9 operators offering bus services catering more than 32 routes from
Mehsana. For the convenience of travellers, there are options of Volvo Ac buses,
Volvo AC Sleeper coaches, AC Seater coaches, Non AC Sleeper buses, and Non AC
Seater buses. Mehsana is approximately 75 km (47 mi) away from Ahmedabad. It
is connected to Gandhinagar, Himmatnagar, Patan, Unjha and Palanpur,
Visnagar via state highways.
 Rail : Mahesana railway station is on the 
Jaipur–Ahmedabad line with daily trains to
and from Delhi and Mumbai, and direct weekly
or bi-weekly trains connecting major cities in
north and south India, including Bangalore.
 Air : The nearest passenger airport is 
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at Ahmedabad. Prepaid taxis and
GSRTC bus are available to Mehsana from the airport. It has an area covering
7 260,000 square metres (64 acres).

Industries : Mehsana has dairy, agriculture and road-equipment based industry. It also has oil and natural gas
production fields and various small- and medium-size industries. The banking and finance sectors have
nationalised, cooperative, and private sector banks. Many large and small road-equipment industries are
established in Mehsana-Dediyasan Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC).

Dairy :The city is known for its local Mehsani breed of buffaloes.

The Mehsana District Cooperative Milk Producer's Union, popularly known as Dudhsagar Dairy, is a member
of the state-level Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation and the largest dairy in Asia, processing on
average 1.41 million kilograms of milk each day. It has established a network for procuring milk from 4,500,000
milk producers through 1,150 village milk cooperatives.

Oil and natural gas : Established in November 1967, the Mehsana fields are one of the largest onshore-
producing assets of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), covering an area of 6,000 km2 (2,300 sq. mi)
with 28 fields in 2007–08. Mehsana also has 1,311 oil wells, and 16 gas wells producing 6,000 tonnes per day

 Tourism is one of the key sectors of growth in Mahesana. There are tourist
destinations like the Sun Temple at Modhera, Rani Udaymati Vav
monument, Taranga Hills and Shanku Water park.
