CODE OF

ETHICS
Significance of Ethics
MT ethics will guard abuses and ills of the profession such as
dishonesty, deceit, immorality, negligence, slothness, lack of
diligence and the other forms of malpractice of the members of the
profession, encourage and enhance the respect of the law, assist in
keeping and maintenance of order, and assures an effective and
efficient delivery of health care. It provides the basis for the
weeding out of unfit and misfit in the MT profession for the
protection of the patients and of the public in general.
Importance of the Code of Ethics
The code has provided the MT profession an impression of identity
and sense of independence, has given MTs the feeling of pride from
other paramedical professions.

Four ethical principles :

1. Autonomy- respecting decision
2. Beneficence- doing good or providing benefit
3. Non-malificience- to do no harm
4. Justice- ensuring fairness and equity
Significant Terminologies
● Immorality- is the doing of an act which is contrary to
conscience.
● Moral turpitude- includes everything which is done contrary
to justice or good morals
● Immoral Conduct-is the conduct which is willful, flagrant, or
shameless and which shows a moral influence to the opinion
of the good and respectable members of the community
● Moral character- is what a person really is, and not what he
or other people think he is
Significant Terminologies
● Autonomy- patients are entitled to choose treatments that involve risk or
whose effectiveness is not established
● Tort- negligent or intentional civil wrong not arising out of a contract or
statute; can include malpractice, negligence, assault and battery (which
may also be considered criminal), invasion of privacy, abuse, and
defamation of character; a wrongful act that is a civil matter rather than a
criminal one, arising from negligent or intentionally wrongful behavior
that results in harm. A tort occurs if a person, including a health care
worker, does not meet customary, established, and expected standards of
care in a given situation.
Significant Terminologies
● Negligence- doing something that a reasonable person
should not do or not be doing something that a reasonable
person would do
● Malpractice- failure of providing services by the standards,
subsequently causing harm
● Beneficence- The FDA’s regulations are to promote well-
being. They act on the principle of beneficence. In medicine,
this principle highlights the duty of health care provider to
do good and take positive steps, such as prevention, removal
of harm to the patient.

Medical Technologist’s Prayer
O God, Who, by calling us to the vocation of a Medical Technologists, has
placed upon us the obligation of being a constant help in the scientific care
of the sick, grant us by Thy divine light a deep insight into the serious
responsibilities of our tasks.

By Thy divine wisdom, awaken in us a growing zeal and determination to

increase our knowledge of how to search for the underlying causes of
sickness and disease; how to recognize the evidence of physical changes;
how to make important chemical analyses, and other valuable tests so helpful
in caring for the sick.

By Thy divine love, permit us in this way to share with those who directly
care for the sick, that thus we may be constantly working through the Eternal
Physician, Christ Our Lord.

AMEN.
