SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS

OF THE STUDY
MOTIVATIO
N
 Example 2 from the study, ‘Eco-Friendly Practice, Environmental Awareness of
Senior High School Students, and Eco-Friendly Programs in School’:

 Scope and Delimitations

 The study was conducted among 100 senior high school students in Alangalang
National High School enrolled during the second semester of school year 2017-
2018.This research aimed to quantitatively describe the eco-friendly practice in
school and environmental awareness of senior high school students, and the
presence of eco-friendly programs in Alangalang National High School. It also aimed
to determine the relationship between the level of environmental awareness
students and the frequency of their eco-friendly practice, as well as the relationship
between the perceived presence of eco-friendly programs and the frequency of eco-
friendly practice of students. To meet the objectives of the research, the correlational
survey design was used. Data were gathered using researcher-made questionnaire.
Correlational analysis was used to test for significant relationship between variables.
ANALYSIS
Give the answer to each questions as they relate to the example ‘Significance of the Study’ in the previous page. Write the answer in
the space provided in columns provided.

  Example 1 Example 2
Where was the study conducted?

When was it conducted?

Who were the respondents?

How many respondents participated in

the study? (sample size)

What was/were the aim/s of the study?

What research instrument was used?

What data analysis/statistical analysis

was done?
The ‘Scope and Delimitations’ of the study gives the
reader an idea about the specific ‘coverage’ of your
study. Also, it tells the reader the ‘limits’ that you
have put in the research, that is, what are the
delimitations of the study.
Hence, it must be clear to the reader the scope and
delimitations in terms of the following:
When will the study be conducted?
Who are the respondents?
What is the sample size?
Where will the study be conducted?
What is the aim of the study?
What is the design?
What instrument/s will be used?
What data analysis/statistical analysis will be used?
 Remember that other institutions call this part of
your manuscript ‘Scope and Limitations’. This
too, is correct. The only thing that the term
‘Delimitations’ emphasizes is that, it is the
researcher who has put the limits to his
research. Hence, the researcher ‘delimited’ the
research to what it is.
 Take note that you are writing the ‘research
proposal’. Therefore, write the ‘Scope and
Delimitations’ of the study in the future tense
because these are things that you plan to do and
will be doing the future. Hence, do not say ‘the
study was conducted’, you say, the study will be
conducted’. Do not say ‘there were 100
respondents’, you say, ‘100 respondents will be
chosen for the study’.
APPLICATION
COLLABORATIVE WORK

Write the ‘Scope and Delimitations’ of your own study

based in the Title and Statement of the Problem that
you conceptualized in the preceding modules. You
may not include the instrument and data analysis yet
if you do not have any idea about it.
ASSESSMENT
In a yellow pad, indicate what should be included in the
scope and delimitations of the study.
