• Kite Runner is Hosseini’s debut novel.


• First novel written and published in English by an Afghan.
• First published in 2003 by Riverhead Books.
• The novel was number 3 best seller for 2005 in United States.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
• Khaled Hosseini is an Afghan-American novelist and former physician.
• He studied medicine in University of California San Diego.
• He has written many novels after the success of “The kite runner” but
his most notable works are “A thousand splendid suns (2007)” and
“And the mountains echoed (2013)”.
• He is known for his vivid depiction of life in Afghanistan notably in
“The kite runner”
SUMMARY
• Amir tells the story of his friendship with Hassan who is his servant
and low cast ethnic Hazara.
• Amir is overwhelmed with guilt when he allows his neighbor and a
major bully Assef to beat and sexually assault Hassan.
• Hassan and his father leaves Kabul.
• Amir and his father flee to America after a short stay in Pakistan after
the war starts at Afghanistan.

• He gets a call from Rahim Khan, his father’s friend and business
partner.
• There is always a way to be good again.
• After coming to Pakistan, Amir comes to know that Hassan and his
wife Farzana has been killed by the Taliban.

to be the same Assef.
