The Scientific
Method? What’s it
all about?
•It is the steps someone takes to
identify a question, develop a
hypothesis, design and carry out
steps or procedures to test the
hypothesis, write down data, and draw
a conclusion.
•In other words, it’s a way to solve a
problem.
Scientists take time to think logically
when they are investigating a
question or problem.
They break things down into
many steps that make sense.
Let’s
have an
activity

What is Scientific
Investigation?
• Scientific Investigation is the way in which
scientists and researchers use a systematic process
to answer questions about the world around us.

• the scientific method is a systematic process that

involves measurable observations to formulate, test
or modify and prove a hypothesis

Steps in
Scientific
Method
The figure
below shows
the steps in
Scientific
Investigation.
Step 1. Identifying Problems

Interest about something

he/she has observed in the
environment.
Step 2. Making Observations

Make observations
regarding the problem.
Step 3. Forming a Hypothesis

Temporary solutions to
the identified problem.
Step 4. Testing the Hypothesis/ Experiment

Conduct and experiment.

Step 5. Organize and Analyze Data

Analyzed data with statistical

software in order to determine the
relationships among the data
gathered.
Step 6. Draw Conclusions
If the data support the hypothesis, then the
hypothesis is correct and may be the
explanation for the phenomena.
Step 7. Communicate Results
Findings and input about the validity
of the conclusion drawn from the
research.
