It is celebrated by hindu religious people but whole Nepal is enjoying at this time. It is the festival of lights and it is celebrated for 5 days. After the fifth day Mha puja is celebrated by the Newari people and after it chaath puja is celebrated by The Maithili people. Tihar is ought to unite people and spread love between them .The day of bhaitika is making the relation of brothers and sisters more strengthful. It is celebrated to impress goddess Laxmi(The goddess of wealth) to come to their home and give them blessings. Tihar starts with cleaning the house . Colorful lights are also seen outside houses in Tihar. Kaag Tihar Kaag Tihar is the ocassion which falls on the 1 st day of Tihar.In this day Crow is worshipped by the people.People keep food on their rooftop which is eaten by the crow. In the Hindu culture, Crow is considered as the guard of the Yamaraja ( The lord of death).People believe that worshipping the crow diverts the death and sadness from their home .It is believed that the crows work for all the year and on the day of Kaag Tihar they are resting and worshipping them brings happiness to their home .People offer food to the crows. It is believed that feeding the Crow brings them good luck for rest of the year.It is also done by the relation of humanity. Kukur Tihar Kukur Tihar is celebrated in the 2nd day of Tihar. Kukur Tihar is celebrated to get a chance by a dog to be worshipped . In Nepal people don’t give much attention to the dogs but on this day people worship dogs , offer them food and put garlands on them. In Nepali tradition dogs are meant to be the messengers of Yamaraja(The lord of death). People worship them to impress lord Yama and bring happiness to their home.People make delicious dishes like selroti,jhilinga and many other dishes which are offered to the dogs. This teaches us to love dogs and don’t hate them. It spreads humanity and peace all around the world so such activities must continue for generations. Laxmi Puja(Deepawali) Laxmi Puja is celebrated in the 3rd day of Tihar.It is also called Deepawali which means the festival of lights.On this day,people worship Cow which is said to be the swaroop of goddess Laxmi.In the morning people feed the cow,put garlands on it and pray for goddess Laxmi to enter in their home. We can see lights everywhere outside people’s houses.All the houses are cleaned before Tihar because it is belived that goddess Laxmi comes to those houses only which are clean and tidy.People pray to Laxmi that their businessess would go on right path and never Bankrupt.Children often use firecrackers in Deepawali for fun and joy.Laxmi Puja can be considerd as an important occasion which falls on Tihar. Govardhan Puja Govardhan Puja is the 4th occasion which falls on the 4th day of Tihar.In this occasion Govardhan hill which is mentioned in the bhgwat purana( The lifestory if Shree Krishna).In the Hindu text it is mentioned that Krishna lifted the huge hill Govardhan with his one finger only.He did that to provide shelter to the villagers when Lord Indra( The god of rain)was angry and created huge storms and made it rain heavily to destroy The Vrindhavan. The devotees celebrate this day very exited and happily.They offer a mountain of food as an offering to Lord Krishna as food plays an important role in this puja.The devotees sing hynms,kritans and light up their houses and clean their houses also. Bhai Tika Bhai Tika isn’t a festival in itself but it’s celebrated on the 5th and last day of Tihar.Bhai Tika is celebrated on the second lunar day of Shukla Pakshya.This is the day of brothers and sisters. In this day brother and sister gather together on this auspicious day of Bhai Tika.The sisters put Saptarang(7 colours)Tika on the forehead of the brothers.Brothers also put the saptarang in their sister’s forehead.Both the brothers and sisters give blessings to each others for a long and healthy life. The brothers and sisters give gifts to each others and sisters cook delicious dishes for their brothers.So it is a great day which strengthens the relation between the brothers and sisters. Mha Puja(Self worship) Mha Puja means “worship of the self” in Newari, and it celebrates the spirit within oneself.It is the celebration of the existance of one’s life and understanding the importance of life.Mha puja is celebrated just after the Bhai Tika.In the Newari culture Mha Puja is known as the new year of Newars.The mandala is worshipped by offering ritual foods like samai baji ,sacred thread,coloured paste, incense,lighted wicks and flowers.Family members then sit cross-legged in front of one’s mandala,and the lady of the household walks down putting a dab of coloured paste in their foreheads.It is celebrated because people think that their minds and souls will be purified after doing this Puja.Mha puja is the most important festival in Newari community. Chaath Puja(Worship of Sun) According to the hindu mythology,Chhath puja is celebrated on the Shulka Pakshya of Kartik.It is considerdas an important festival in Mithila and UP Bihar states of India.A fast of three days is also observed during this period.People worship chhati mata to get her blessings.Puja is organised on the bank of water bodies and rising and setting sun is worshipped.It is believed that this puja will fulfill all people’s desire and needs who perform this fast.People also believe that there is Lord Surya’s sister chhati mata and they worship her to bring happiness to their home.Nowadays we can see many people performing this puja with lots of love and happiness .Khasta and Thekua are two main prasad of this festival.It is quite good to see people gather around and worship something byhearted.
