Conditional

statements

Converse
formed when the hypothesis and conclusion
of a conditional statement are switched

If “q”, then “p”.

Conditional:
If you are a Filipino, then you are
hospitable.

Converse
_______________:
If you are hospitable, then you are a Filipino.
Conditional:
If an animal is terrestrial, then it lives on
land.

Converse
_________:
If an animal lives on land, then it is
terrestrial.
Conditional:
If a number is even, then it is
divisible by 2.
___________:
Converse
If a number is divisible by 2, then it
is even.
Inverse
formed by negating the hypothesis and
conclusion of a conditional statement

If “not p”, then “not

q”.
Conditional:
If you are a Filipino, then you are
hospitable.

Inverse
_______:
If you are not a Filipino, then you are not
hospitable.
Conditional:
If an animal is terrestrial, then it lives on
land.

Inverse
_______:
If an animal is not terrestrial, then it does not
live on land.
Conditional:
If a number is even, then it is
divisible by 2.
_______:
Inverse
If a number is not even, then it is not
divisible by 2.
Contrapositive
formed by negating the converse

If “not q”, then “not

p”.
Converse:
If you are hospitable, then you are a
Filipino.

Contrapositive
_______________:
If you are not hospitable, then you are not a
Filipino.
Converse:
If an animal lives on land, then it is
terrestrial

Contrapositive
_______________:
If an animal does not live on land, then it is
not terrestrial.
Converse:
If a number is divisible by 2, then it
is even.
______________:
Contrapositive
If a number is not divisible by 2,
then it is not even.
Biconditional
if the conditional and the converse are true,
you can connect the phrases by “if and only if”
(iff), thus a biconditional statement is formed

“p” if and only if “q”

Conditional:
If an animal is terrestrial, then it lives on
land.

Biconditional
_____________:
An animal is terrestrial if and only if it lives on
land.
Conditional:
If you are a Filipino, then you are
hospitable.

Biconditional:
Conditional:
If a number even then it is divisible
by 2.
Biconditional
_____________:
A number is even if and only if it is
divisible by 2.
Conditional : If “p”, then “q”.
Converse : If “q”, then “p”.
Inverse :
If “not p”, then “not q”.
Contrapositive :
If “not q”, then “not q”.
Conditional : If a triangle is equilateral, then it is
equiangular.
Converse : If a triangle is equiangular, then it is
equilateral.
Inverse : If a triangle is not equilateral, then it is
not equiangular.
Contrapositive : If a triangle is not equiangular, then it is
not equilateral.
Conditional : If a triangle is equilateral, then it is
equiangular.
Converse : If a triangle is equiangular, then it is
equilateral.

Biconditional :
A triangle is equilateral if and only if it is
equiangular.
Conditional : If an animal is vertebrate, then it has
backbone.
Converse : If an animal has backbone, then it is
vertebrate.
Inverse : If an animal is not vertebrate, then it
does not have backbone.
Contrapositive : If an animal does not have backbone,
then it is not vertebrate.
Conditional : If an animal is vertebrate, then it has
backbone.
Converse : If an animal has backbone, then it is
vertebrate.

Biconditional :
An animal is vertebrate if and only if it
has backbone.
Conditional : If two circles are congruent, then they
have the same diameter.
Converse : If two circles have the same diameter,
then they are congruent.
Inverse : If two circles are not congruent, then
they do not have the same diameter.
Contrapositive : If two circles do not have the dame
diameter, then they are not congruent.
Conditional : If two circles are congruent, then they have
the same diameter.
Converse : If two circles have the same diameter, then
they are congruent.

Biconditional :
Two circles are congruent if and only if
they have the same diameter.
Conditional : If an animal is a poodle, then it is a dog.

Converse : If an animal is a dog, then it is a poodle.

Inverse : If an animal is not a poodle, then it is not

a dog.
Contrapositive : If an animal is not a dog, then it is not a
poodle.
Conditional : If an animal is a poodle, then it is a
dog.
Converse : If an animal is a dog, then it is a
poodle
Biconditional :
(cannot be written as a biconditional because the converse is
false)
