ASSEMBLY DRAWING
•Usually an orthographic
drawing of an object
with its parts assembled.
•It is used to show more
detailed illustration of a
project to be done in all
trade areas.
FEATURES OF AN ASSEMBLY DRAWING:
1. DIMENSIONS – detailed dimensions required for
manufacturer are excluded from assembly drawings.
But overall dimensions of the assembled object are
usually indicated.

TYPES OF
ASSEMBLY DRAWING
1. GENERAL ASSEMBLY DRAWING- A mechanical drawing
showing all the information needed for the complete construction of
a product. It includes orthographic drawing, dimensions, and notes
or letterings.
2. EXPLODED PICTORIAL ASSEMBLY DRAWING
• It is the most useful in assembling various components.
• This is usually drawn in a particular form with an axis line
showing the sequence of assembly.
3. WORKING OR DETAILED ASSEMBLY DRAWING
• Is a two view or three-view drawing of the whole object. It provides
all the necessary details, dimensions and joining techniques.
4. PICTORIAL ASSEMBLY DRAWING
• are drawings commonly used to show how individual
components fit together.
• Isometric view show separated parts.
5. Outline Assembly Drawing
• this gives general information about a machine or a group of
components, for example, main sizes and center distances which
would show how the unit would be installed.

• It shows rough preliminary design ideas sometimes
in a sketch form.
• It shows overall size, form, location, and

7. DIAGRAM ASSEMBLY DRAWING
• This drawing usually come with a set of instructions in words and/or an
annotated(labelled) picture that explain in detail how we must assemble an
item.

1. Assembly drawings must provide sufficient information to enable
the assembly of a component.
2. Assembly drawings must have a number of views to show how
parts fit together.
3. Section views to show how parts fit and to eliminate hidden detail.
4. Dimensions to indicate range of motion or overall size of
assembly for reference purposes.

5. Individual components identified with balloon and leader lines.
6. Parts list (or BOM – Bill of Materials) relates to balloon numbers on drawing.
Bill of Materials- is a list material showing their stocks, sizes, quantities, and
brief descriptions.
7. Revision table.
8. May require multiple views on separate page for very large assemblies.
