CHINA:

• China officially known as the People's Republic of China is a country in East Asia. It is the
world's most populous country, with a population of more than 1.4 billion. Covering an area of
approximately 9.6 million square kilometers (3.7 million mi2), it is the world's third or fourth-
largest country. Capital of China is Beijing. China emerged as one of the world's first civilizations,
in the fertile basin of the Yellow River in the North China Plain. China's landscape is vast and
diverse, ranging from the Gobi and Taklamakan Deserts in the arid north to the subtropical forests
in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate
China from much of South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-
longest in the world, respectively, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern
seaboard.

HISTORICAL PAST OF CHINA AND THEIR FORM OF
GOVERNMENT:

• China's history is rich with art, politics, science, and philosophy. It is home to the oldest of the
major world civilizations. China was ruled by various dynasties for much of its history. The first
dynasty is believed to be the Xia dynasty which formed somewhere around 2250 BC. The Shang
or Yin dynasty gained power around the 14th century BC. The Han Dynasty, which lasted over 400
years from 206 BC to 220 AD, was one of the most influential in China's history. Much of the
culture today was created during the Han Dynasty. Later famous dynasties, like the Song and the
Tang, continued to refine the culture and bring new innovations to the world including printed
money, a permanent navy, and a complex government that ruled over 100 million people.
• The government of the People's Republic of China is collectively the state authority in
the People's Republic of China (PRC) under the exclusive political leadership of the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP). It consists of legislative, executive, military, supervisory, judicial and
procuratorial branches.
CONCLUSION:

• China has a long history of 5,000 years. The Chinese people have lived and multiplied on this land
where all ethnic groups have mixed together, in the course of which they have evolved powerful
cohesiveness, and the values of cherishing and safeguarding unity. Over the long course of
history, the Chinese nation has witnessed changes of dynasties, transfers of governments, local
separatist regimes, and foreign invasions, especially the untold invasions and dismemberment by
foreign powers in modern history. However, unity has always been the main trend in the
development of Chinese history. Our compatriots in Taiwan have a glorious tradition of
patriotism, and have performed brilliant exploits in the struggles against foreign invasions of
Taiwan. Since the founding of the PRC, the Chinese people have particularly valued their hard-
earned national independence, firmly upheld state sovereignty and territorial integrity and
struggled unswervingly for reunification of the motherland. The 5, 000-year history and culture
have been implanted deeply in the minds of the Chinese people, sprouting the strong national
consciousness of the need for national unification.
