WHAT IS ENERGY AUDIT ?

• An energy audit is an Inspection, Survey and Analysis

of energy flows for energy conservation in a building,
process or system to reduce the amount of energy input
into the system without negatively affecting the output.
• In commercial and industrial real estate, an energy audit
is the first step in identifying opportunities to reduce
energy expense and carbon footprints.
Preliminary energy audit: This type of audit is simply
a data-gathering exercise that offers a preliminary
analysis. Often the auditor will conduct this type of
audit via a walk-through investigation. A
professional energy auditor will utilize readily
TYPES OF available data and limited diagnostic instruments to
complete a preliminary energy audit.
ENERGY
AUDIT Detailed energy audit: This type of audit is completed
by a professional auditor who monitors, analyzes, and
verifies energy use to establish problem areas and
ways to implement energy efficiency improvements.
They will present their findings and suggestions in a
detailed technical report. Additionally, during a
thorough energy audit, a professional energy
auditor will use sophisticated instrumentation such as
a flue gas analyser, a scanner, and a flow meter.
• An energy audit will identify energy-
saving opportunities.
• It will help you understand your energy usage and
ways to use energy better.
IMPORTANCE • An energy audit can identify safety concerns with
electrical systems, wiring, and ventilation, thus
OF ENERGY making your home or business safer.
AUDIT • An energy audit will help you identify how to reduce
carbon monoxide production in the home or
business.
• An energy audit will tell how much money and
energy can be saved each year.
LIST OF INSTRUMENTS

1. Flue Gas Analyser: It is used for optimizing the

combustion efficiency by measuring/monitoring
the oxygen and CO levels in flue gas of boilers,
furnaces etc. and calculation of CO2 percentage in
excess air level and efficiency.
2. Infrared Thermometers: It is used for measuring
temperatures from a distance using infrared
technology.
3. Thermal Insulation scanner: It is used for
measuring loss of energy in Kcal per unit area
from hot/cold insulated surfaces. The total loss can
be obtained by multiplying the total surface under
study.
4. Non-Contact Tachometer: A Tachometer is an
instrument used to measure the rotational speed of
a shaft or wheel in revolutions per minute. It is used
for measurement of speed of rotation equipment.
5. Power Analyser: It is used for measurement and
analysis of electrical Power.
6. Luxmeter: It is used for measurement of
illumination level. It consists of a Photocell which
sense the Light Output, Converts to Electrical
Impulses which are Calibrated as LUX.
7. Clip on Dig. Watt Mete: It is
used for measurement of power
without interrupting the
connections.
8. Clip on Dig. PF Meter: It is used
for measurement of power factor
without interrupting the
connection.
9. Clamp on amp. Meter: It is used
for measurement of current
without Interrupting the
connections.
