VERBAL PARALANGUAGES

 Is about “HOW” something is said, not what is said.
Words of protest may lose their fire when said in a
meek and soft voice. Tone or voices must match the
content of the message.
LANGUANGE OF FLOWER

 FLOWERS say for us what we cannot say ourselves.
These meanings are also influenced by culture and
gender. Supposedly, only Filipino men send flowers,
women don’t.
LANGUAGE OF COLORS

 Mean something based on the dictates of culture and
gender. Hospitals (and parents) prepare everything
differently for baby boy and baby girls. In Thailand,
only King can wear yellow. Tourists who dare to
wear the royal color are punished.
LANGUAGE OF TIME
(Chronemics)

 Shows how time is viewed differently in various
cultures. Filipinos tend to see time as being elastic.
Time in the West is always exact. Time is most often
used in the Philippines to convey how powerful a
person is. European will wait only 5 minutes beyond
an appointed time. Filipinos will wait for someone to
arrive for as long as an hour or even longer.
LANGUAGE OF SPACE
(Proxemics)

close or how far people are far from the center of
power or where you are in the social ladder. Houses
of the millionaires are usually huge while middle
class house would be more modest. Hong Kong and
Singapore, living spaces is usually in a high rise
buildings and condominiums.

it can say what cannot be said by the speaker. What
differentiates among it all other nonverbal
communication is the fact that there is a contact
between a sender and receiver of the message.
LANGUAGE OF GESTURES

Communication. Speech, to be understandable and
interesting to a listener must be accompanied by
different gestures. Hitting the table is a gesture that
interjects force, helping emphasize a point being
made.
FACIAL EXPRESSION

 Is the type of nonverbal communication that assists
the listener in understanding the message better. Eye
contact is number one. A frown on the forehead of a
listener may mean that what was said was confusing
or not understandable.
POSTURE AND PERSONAL
APPEARANCE

 Are the last types of nonverbal Communication.
How a speaker stands or sits, look at the listener, and
acts out or behaves towards a message can affect
how people see him/her as a Speaker. When Speaker
carries himself/herself well and with confidence,
people will want to listen.
