Tea Garden

Training Programme
• Boisahabi Tea Estate, Selanghat

About the Tea Estate :
Boisahabi Tea Estate in under SSK EXPORTS LIMITED,
Kolkata.
• In 1997, The pioneers at SSK exports moved to the North-
East and acquired gardens on the bank of the
Brahmaputra.
• It is a chemical free garden with no use of chemical and
pesticides.

Infrastructure of the
Tea Estate
• A. There is an own tea manufacturing unit.
• B. There is an administrative office.
• C. There is a hospital inside the tea estate.
• D. There are 4 Bungalows.
• E. Quarters for office workers.
• F. Housing facilities for permanent workers.
• G. Temple, Church and Mosque are there.
• H. There is a playground inside the tea estate.
Planting of tea
Standard practices :
1. Digging of planting pit :
The pit should be 45 cm diameter
and 45-60 cm deep.
But in the garden some
differentiation have been seen during
digging of pit. They don’t take any
measurement during preparation of pit.
The size of pits are not same.
2. Pit mixture :
Well rotten dry cattle manure – 4/5
kg
Superphosphate - 30 g
Rockphosphate - 30 g

In the garden they only given dry


cattle manure 1 or 2 kg/ pit.
3. The size of the plant is same as the
standard size of the plant. Which is
a. Plant with collar pencil thickness. (5-
8mm)
b. 40-45 cm tall and having 10-12 leaves.
c. Age of plants in between 9-12 months

4. Spacing of plants are :


a. Single hedge regular
b. Double hedge regular
c. Double hedge staggered
Digging of Pit Planting of Tea
Plucking and Pruning
• In the garden plucking is done 20 cm (8 inch) above from
the last LP mark.
• Light prune (LP) is done 3-5 cm above from the last LP
mark.
• Deep Skiff (DS) is done 10-14 cm above from last LP
mark. Plucking is done 8-10 cm above from the DS mark.
Organic spraying
In the garden they used mixture of
a. Cow dung slurry.
b. molasses.
c. Cow urine.
d. Paneer water.
Bio-Fertilizers used by the
garden :
1. Humigrow : It contains Humic Acid. It helps
in the plants growth. Increase root growth
and resistance to root diseases.
250 ml per 200 liter of water.(Foliar spray)
500 ml per 200 liter of water.(Soil Application)

2. Cropforce : It contains Amino Acid Protein


along with other growth promoting substance
off plant & animal origin. It increase
chlorophyll percentage and increase
immunity.
250 ml per 200 liter of water.(Foliar spray)
500 ml per 200 liter of water.(Soil application)
3. It containing Pseudomonas
fluorescens. It is a selective bio-agent
and effectively control soil borne
nematodes and diseases on crops.
50 gm per 200 liter of water.

4. It contains Trichoderma viride. It is


used to control root rot diseases.

Small Tea growers’
Sector
In this phase of training programme I have visited
some small tea growers’ garden to see how they maintain
their garden and the procedure of production of tea.

In this phase I have seen that they are not adopted the
standard practices of tea management.
Sometimes they also used banned chemicals.
gardens are not clean and crops affected by pests like
tea Mosquito bug, Red Spider mite and Looper.
Some chemicals used by the small tea growers are :
For Helopeltis – Actara (Thiamethoxam 25 WG)
Renova (Thiamethoxam 25 WG)

For RSM -- Brigade (Bifenthrin 8 SC)


Magister (Fenazaquin 10 EC)

For Looper -- Pocket (Emamectin Benzoate 5% SG)


Decis 100 (Deltamethrin 10 EC)

WG : Water dispersible Granules


SC : Suspension Concentrate
EC : Emulsifiable Concentrate
SG : Water Soluble Granules
