ABSTRACT
• Sugarcane is multipurpose crop that serves as source of sugar, juices, jaggery and various products
for man and raw materials for industry. But prior to the process of machining process, some
processing is required to remove the solid particles, spots and sludge on the cane. The processing
of sugarcane strip for industrial or human use involves different operations of which peeling is a
major one and cannot be neglected.
• This study presents the features, prospects, performance evaluations and limitations of some
sugarcane peeling machines in world like the fixed outer drum peeler, automated cane peeler,
knife-edge type self-fed peeler, etc. Their peculiar advantages and operational parameters such as
machine speed, output capacity, peeling efficiency and cane losses were evaluated. Aside from the
manual ones, the ranges of the peeling efficiency and cane loss were recoded in range of 59.9 –
91.4 % and 2–4% respectively.
• Mechanization of this peeling process has the potential of encouraging growth in cultivation, cane
utilization and improving the product quality of value-added products. The product quality,
processing efficiency, minimum loss of cane and increased processing rate will be affected by
improved sugarcane peeling process.

KEYWORDS: Sugarcane, sugarcane juice , peeling efficiency.

INTRODUCTION
DEHUSKING OF SUGARCANE
• A cutting-edge sugarcane peeling device has been innovated to transform the sugar production
industry. Developed by experts in the field, the device employs an AC motor, belt system, and a
helical pipe for improved efficiency and peeling performance. The utilization of an AC motor
enhances power output and control, enabling consistent and precise peeling.
• The incorporation of a belt system facilitates smooth movement of sugarcane through the machine,
reducing friction and potential damage.
• The introduction of a helical pipe optimizes peeling by providing better grip and support, resulting
in more effective removal of the outer layers. This integrated approach enhances the overall
peeling process, leading to increased productivity, reduced wastage, and improved quality of
peeled sugarcane and economical approach to peeling sugarcane compared to the present methods.
• The advent of the state-of-the-art sugarcane peeler is expected to revolutionize traditional
processing methods, induce a new level of productivity, and facilitate industry growth.
Objectives
• The main objectives of our sugarcane peeler project are to increase efficiency, reduce processing
time, and improve profitability for sugarcane farmers and processors.
• By automating the peeling process, our machine can save significant labor costs and reduce the
risk of injury from manual peeling.
• Additionally, our machine can peel more sugarcane in less time than traditional methods, allowing
for increased productivity and faster processing times.
• Another important objective of our project is to improve the quality of the peeled sugarcane.
• Our machine uses precision blades and rollers to ensure a consistent and uniform peel, which can
result in higher quality sugarcane for further processing. This can lead to increased demand and
higher prices for the sugarcane, ultimately improving the profitability of our customers.

• CONCLUSION :
Sugarcane planting with traditional methods is costly, time-consuming and necessary compression
of buds in the field is not achieved easily because of stalk planting in sugarcane. In tradition planting
method, great human force and high volume of sugarcane stalk in hectare is required. To solve this
problem and mechanizing of sugarcane planting, we suggest the application of machine vision system and
Image Processing methods to identify nodes from sugarcane and to plant it as a seed by planting machines.

Problem of identification
Problem Identification

• The sugarcane industry is facing a major challenge in terms of peeling the sugarcane without
damaging the quality and quantity of the juice.
• Peeling off of unacceptable percentage of useful flesh during mechanical peeling.
• Reduction in peeling efficiency with increased time and speed of operation.
• The traditional methods of peeling involve manual labor, which is time-consuming, inefficient,
and prone to errors. Moreover, the manual peeling process results in a lot of wastage of the
sugarcane, which reduces the overall profitability of the industry.
• To address this problem, our project aims to design and develop an automated sugarcane peeler
that can peel the sugarcane efficiently, accurately, and without causing any damage to the juice.
Methodology
Switch on the motor

When the power from AC motor

is transmitted to the rotating brushes
by the shaft arrangement

The brush starts rotating and outer stalk are

peeled through opposite rotating brushes
Then the peeled outer stalks are separated
from the sugarcane and stored in
separate places

Then the machine is switch off after

the usage
Working
• The sugarcane peeling machine operates on the principle of using an AC single phase motor and
belt system to drive a helical pipe mechanism.
• The AC motor provides rotational power, which is transferred through a belt to the helical pipe.
• The rotating wire brushes in the opposite which can be helps to sieve the sugarcane stalk and peel
the outer layer.
• The helical pipe is designed with ridges that grip the sugarcane as it rotates. As the sugarcane
moves through the helical pipe, the ridges peel off the outer skin, leaving the edible part exposed.
• This process is efficient and automated, reducing the manual effort required for peeling sugarcane.
• The combination of the AC motor, belt, and helical pipe creates a mechanical advantage that
simplifies the peeling process, making it suitable for commercial sugarcane processing.
