Transcendent
hospitality
Redefining travel accommodation through practicality,
sustainability and functionality.
INTRODUCTION

In an era of unprecedented global mobility, where boundaries blur and cultures converge, the role
of accommodations for travelers has evolved into a dynamic and multifaceted realm. The
traditional notion of a hostel, once synonymous with budget-oriented, no-frills lodging, has
undergone a profound transformation. Today, the contemporary traveler seeks not only affordable
shelter but also an immersive and enriching experience, fostering connections with fellow
sojourners and the local culture.

This architectural thesis embarks on a journey to explore the intersections of travel, architecture,
and community by focusing on the design and reinvention of travel hostels. The objective is to
create a space that is a vibrant hub that mirrors the spirit of exploration, curiosity, and social
exchange inherent in the modern travel ethos.

The symbiotic relationship between architecture and the traveler's experience. Considering how
spatial design can not only address functional requirements but also stimulate engagement,
inspire creativity, and cultivate a sense of belonging. Sustainability, accessibility, cultural
integration, and innovative use of materials and technology will be integral elements in our
design philosophy, aligning with the broader global shift toward eco-conscious and inclusive
spaces.

NEED FOR THE PROJECT

• Travellers look forward for an enriching and memorable experience at their stay.
• They seeking more than just a roof over their heads; they crave a sense of connection, a community
that transcends borders, and an environment that nurtures personal development.

• Chikmagalore being one of the most travel spot in Karnataka, requires a retreat which provides
different typology stays .
• Focus needs to be given on integrating sustainable features, connection to the nature and cultural
exchange.

environment for travellers while fostering practicality, cultural exchange and community
engagement with variety options of accommodation.

areas and off-the-beaten-path destinations. This objective can have a significant impact on the local
community, boosting small businesses, creating job opportunities, and promoting a more diverse and
balanced distribution of tourism income.

METHODOLOGY

• Stage 1: Survey of existing data through the following

Primary data- through surveys to create and generate the theory and need for the design intervention.
Secondary Data /Literature study- is a Survey and review made to understand major concepts and to
define specific terms involved in the topic of research

• Stage 2: Desk top studies Study of case examples form Books/Magazines/Internet about the
treatment methods and methodology of designing the spaces in a nature cure center. Desk top studies
focus on architectural design of the existing examples and can give first-hand information on how the
program may shape up after the research.

• Stage 3: Identification of live Case study, Site study, context studies. A brief description about the
case study

• Stage 4: Case study documentation, analysis, Inferences.

• Stage 5: Site study and Site analysis inferences.

• Stage 6: Comparative analysis/synthesis and formulation of design guidelines for Quality and
Quantity of space design in question
