Present Perfect Continuous

PRESENT PERFECT
CONTINUOUS CONSTRUCTION
•We make the Present Perfect Continuous by using:

have/has + been + .ing

•For example
I’ve been working at Apple for two months.
PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS
FORMS CONSTRUCTION

have/has + been + .ing


She has been studying English lately.

have/has not + been + .ing


They haven’t been living in that house.

have/has + Subj. + been + .ing


Has she been going to that school?

we say how often/much we’ve done something

we concentrate on the result
I’ve bought some new games. (I have the games now)
some verbs are not used in the .ing form
She’s been.../We’ve known.../They’ve had (possession)..

•Present perfect continuous:
we say how long the action’s in progress
I’ve been reading this book all morning.
when we focus more on the act of the verb itself than on results
It’s been raining a lot.
an action that has just finished moments ago
Sorry, I’m sweating. I’ve been running.
BOTH FORMS

•Some verbs can take both forms without much


difference in meaning.

She’s lived/been living in that house since she was born.
BUT the verb have can be used in the .ing form when we don’t
mean possession
She’s been having a heavy dinner.
She’s been having that car for ages.
