An introduction to Human Geography

A-Level Topic: Regenerating Places Key Question: What is the meaning of place?
What is place?
One of the oldest principles of geography is the concept of place. As a result, place has numerous
definitions, but to geographers a place is “a location with meaning”. Places can be dynamic,
multidimensional and complex. A sense of place refers to the emotions someone attaches to an area
based on their experiences. Attachment to a place depends on a variety of different factors including: age,
how long you have lived in a place; gender; and ethnicity.
