MIXTURES, SEPARATING
TECHNIQUES, PRECISION, AND
ACCURACY
Is a mixture in which
the composition is not
uniform throughout
the mixture..
Is combination of two or more substances
that are so intimately mixed that the mixture
behaves as a single substance.
DIFFERENT PROCESSES OF SEPARATING
MIXTURES How Decantation
Works
Decantation involves two steps:
1.Sedimentation: Sedimentation uses
gravity or a centrifuge to separate mixture
components based on density.
2.Decanting: Decanting is pouring or
Decantation siphoning off the top component of a
mixture or draining the bottom
component.
A process that separates components
of a mixture based on differences in
density. You may encounter
decantation in everyday life with
wine or spirits, but it’s also a
powerful technique in chemistry for
separating a solid from a liquid or
isolating two immiscible liquids.
PAPER CHROMATOGRAPHY
Paper
chromatography is
an analytical method
used to separate
coloured chemicals or
substances.
FILTRATION
Filtration, the process in which
solid particles in a liquid or
gaseous fluid are removed by the
use of a filter medium that
permits the fluid to pass through
but retains the solid particles.
Either the clarified fluid or the
solid particles removed from the
fluid may be the desired product.
MAGNETIC SEPARATION
Magnetic separation is the
process of separating
components of mixtures by
using magnets to attract
magnetic materials.The process
that is used for magnetic
separation detaches non-
magnetic material with those
that are magnetic.
SIEVING
An instrument with a
meshed or perforated
bottom, used for separating
coarse from fine parts of
loose matter, for straining
liquids, etc., especially one
with a circular frame and
fine meshes or perforations.
PRECISION AND ACCURACY
If a measurement is A measurement that is precise

accepted standard for that
measurement.
The more accurate the
system is considered to
be.
