• Graduated University of Waterloo with BA in
Economics/Accounting
• Worked full range of positions from data entry clerk to
controller
• Currently controller of a general contractor
• St. Clair College instructor – about 15 years

• CLO #1: Organize, record and report on accounting


information using Sage 50 software to meet user needs
– Record journal entries using general ledger module
– Record payable transactions including purchase orders and
quotes
– Record receivable transactions using sales orders and quotes
– Record foreign currency transactions
– Backup & restore data
• CLO #2: Convert accounting information from a manual
accounting system or other software to the Sage 50
format
– Record transactions from source documents

• CLO #3: Identify and apply the rules of HST/GST/PST
as part of recording transactions using Sage 50
– Record taxes for both sales and purchases utilizing Sage 50
– Prepare remittances to government agencies in Sage 50

• CLO #4: Identify and apply the rules of payroll taxes


including due dates and payment frequencies as part
of recording transactions using Sage 50
– Record payroll transactions and Human Resource data for
employees (personal data, vacation pay, sick days, etc.)
– Record remittance of payroll taxes using Sage 50

• Academic dishonesty, cheating, plagiarism,
and other forms of academic misconduct are
violations of St. Clair College's Code of
Student Rights and Responsibilities and can
result in both academic and administrative
penalties.

• Academic penalties for misconduct are issued
by the instructor and include warning,
resubmission of assignment with or without
mark deduction, mark penalty, grade
deduction and a failing grade in the course.

• Administrative penalties are issued by Chairs,
Deans and the Vice President Academic for
violations of the Code of Students Rights and
Responsibilities and include suspension or
dismissal from the College.

• Where appropriate, first instance issues of
academic misconduct will be approached as a
learning opportunity to take corrective action
by requiring students to participate in
an Academic Integrity Workshop, to reflect
and take responsibility for the incident, and
develop strategies to avoid future incidents of
academic misconduct.
Mid-Term Evaluation
• Week 8 – Instructors will issue evaluations to
students that they can view in “self-serve”
• Purpose is to give students an idea of how they are
progressing in the course and their risk of passing or
failing
• Assessment Categories:
– Green – not at risk based on marks & attendance
– Orange – Average grade 50-63% and attendance <80%
– Red – Average grade < 50% and attendance <60%
Course Expectations
I expect my students to:
•Attend classes regularly, participate & assist your peers
•Be patient! - computer courses may have surprises & challenges
•Cell phones – silent mode during class for emergency calls only -
do not use them during class for texting/phone calls
•Breaks - start/end time
•Arriving late – please enter room quietly
•No talking during class lecture – have respect for your peers &
your instructor please!
•Missing a test – Notify me as soon as possible BEFORE the test if
you cannot attend (due to illness or accident, etc); zero grade for
missed tests not excused;
•Advise me of any accommodation plans
•Regularly use and check Blackboard website

Before next class…
– Purchase your textbook
– Download & install Sage 50 onto your
personal computer – see Appendix A (*will
not work on a Mac computer)
– Download data files onto USB or your
OneDrive for class
– Review chapters 1 & 2
– Be ready to start Chapter 3 using Sage 50
