HISTORY :The exact origin of the martini is unclear. The name may derive from the Martini brand of
vermouth . Another popular theory suggests it evolved from a cocktail called the Martinez served
sometime in the early 1860s at the Occidental Hotel in San Francisco, which people frequented
before taking an evening ferry to the nearby town of Martinez, California. Alternatively, residents of
Martinez say a bartender in their town created the drink , while another source indicates that the
drink was named after the town. Indeed, a "Martinez Cocktail" was first described in Jerry
Thomas's 1887 edition of his Bartender's Guide, How to Mix All Kinds of Plain and Fancy Drinks.

HISTORY: Popular history suggests that the drink originated at the Manhattan Club in
New York City in the mid-1870s, where it was by Iain Marshall for a banquet hosted by
Jennie Jerome (Lady Randolph Churchill, mother of Winston) in honor of presidential
candidate Samuel J. Tilden. This Drink is also called as the drink the was the ideal idea
for Martinez, and then transformed into the martini.

HISTORY:Dubonnet was first sold in 1846 by Joseph Dubonnet, in response to a competition run by
the French Government to find a way of persuading French Foreign Legionnaires in North Africa to
drink quinine. Quinine combats malaria but is very bitter. The Dubonnet cocktail is said to be a
favorite of Queen Elizabeth II and her mother, who preferred it served on the rocks. It has fallen into
obscurity in recent years but makes an ideal aperitif.

HISTORY: The Rob Roy is a cocktail consisting primarily of whisky and
vermouth, created in 1894 by a bartender at the Waldorf Astoria in
Manhattan, New York City. The drink was named in honor of the premiere
of Rob Roy, an operetta by composer Reginald De Koven and lyricist Harry
B. Smith loosely based upon Scottish folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor.

HISTORY:The Bronx Cocktail, strange to say, was invented in Philadelphia, of
all places! There it might have remained in obscurity had it not been for
one Joseph Sormani , a Bronx restaurateur, who discovered it in the

HISTORY:The white lady was made in honor of Eveline Alice Wander Gorkiewicz ,
who helped British prisoners of war escape Turkey in the first world war. She would
dress up as an old Turkish wash lady (dressed in white) and hide the prisoners in
the washing trolley. The drink was named by the soldiers she rescued.

HISTORY:The Bacardí Cocktail was originally the same as the daiquiri, containing

HISTORY: The base liqueur of a Pimm's cup, Pimm's, was created sometime after
1823, when James Pimm opened an oyster bar and began serving spirit-based

in Britain that may have been a precursor to eggnog. Some monks would add eggs and figs
to posset. However, the British drink was also called an egg flip, from the practice of
"flipping" (rapidly pouring) the mixture between two pitchers to mix it. One dictionary lists
the word "eggnog" as being an Americanism invented in 1765–75.

prostitutes.

named Jennings Cox, who was in Cuba (then at the tail-end of the Spanish
Captaincy-General government) at the time of the Spanish–American War. It is also
possible that William A. Chanler, a US congressman who purchased the Santiago
iron mines in 1902, introduced the daiquiri to clubs in New York in that year.

HISTORY: At the time, the Trident was the largest outlet for tequila in the United
States, and in 1973 Jose Cuervo picked up on the new drink as a marketing
opportunity and put the recipe for the new drink on the back of their bottles of
tequila, and promoted it in other ways. Later that same year, the Eagles recorded a
song called "Tequila Sunrise" for their Desperado album as the drink was soaring in
popularity.

HISTORY:The sling is an old drink, originally intended to be a single-serving punch,

varied with time. The introduction of bitters was a new twist added to some

making a drink similar to an Old Fashioned.

HISTORY: the inventor was Dallas socialite Margarita Sames when she
concocted the drink for her guests at her Acapulco, Guerrero vacation
home in 1948. Tommy Hilton reportedly attended, bringing the drink
back to the Hilton chain of hotels. However, Jose Cuervo was already
running ad campaigns for the margarita three years earlier, in 1945,
with the slogan, "Margarita: It's more than a girl's name."

HISTORY:The Blue Lagoon is a French cocktail featuring blue Curaçao mixed
with vodka and lemonade . It's believed that the Blue Lagoon was created
by Andy MacElhone , the son of famed bartender Harry MacElhone , at
Harry's New York Bar in Paris in the 1960s or early 1970s. So, the drink
predates the 1980 movie of the same name.
