Another interesting fact about the

Tabon Caves is that it's named after


the large-footed bird that lays its eggs
in the grounds of the caves.
The Tabon Man
• A discovery of a Homo Sapiens (human) fossils
which is composed of the skull cap, two
fragments of jaw bones and some teeth.
These fossil are said to be three different
individuals. The skull cap is thought to be a
young female. Unable to identify the rest of
the genders, but were dated back to 20,000-
14,000 B.C.
Where was it found?
• Tabon man was discovered in the Tabon caves
of Lipuun Point in the town of Quezon,
Palawan on May 28, 1962 by Dr. Robert B. Fox.
• The Tabon Cave, in fact, was populated by
people earlier than Tabon Man. The deepest
soil deposit of the cave was dated to
approximately 50,000 years old, and the
youngest to about 10,000 years. This shows
that the cave was used continuously for about
40,000 years by peoples that used the same
kind of stone tools.
Stone Tools
• The type of tools found in the Tabon Cave
actually continued to be used in other sites in
the Lipuun Point even after Tabon Cave was
abandoned. In fact, this type of tools
continued to be in use even to recent times
among certain peoples.
