EXPERIMENT
BOILING WATER IN A FLAMMABLE
CONTAINER
Paper Cup Balloon
So when trying to boil the water in the paper cup on the
stove I realized that the sides of the cup were burning
THE PAPER CUP and not the middle, them being thicker, they were able
to stay stable enough to not let any watter through and
with the heat spread evenly, the water was able to
transfer the heat.
The plastic and the paper in the cup were able to
transfer the heat well enough and also be resistant to the
flame that was being caused under it.
THE BALLOON
Boiling the water in the balloon was a different
situation however. The balloon would pop if it
was inflated due to the ammount of heat that’s
being thrown at the latex and it wouldn't be
able to resist it so it would explode in my hand.

Sadly I didn’t have a weak enough source of

heat but I can guarantee that would've worked.
Use a weak lighter or a candle, not some double
jet lighter.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?

• Basicly water being a good conductor it is able to transfer the heat very well even though the
material is flammable. It takes most of the heat and it boils instead of letting the material take the
heat and burn. How this works is that water being a liquid, the particles rub againts the hot material
and transfers it to the other water molecuels.
• So water is able to stop the flammable materials from getting lit on fire.
