El-Wastani Formation

The El-Wastani Formation:

Age: Late Pliocene (Schlumberger 1984). Type section: El-Wastani-1 well.

Thickness: 120 m in its type section (Rizzini et al. 1978). In the El- Tamad Field wells, it ranges from a
maximum thickness of 66 m (217 ft) in El-Tamad-2 well to a minimum thickness of about 47.6 m (156
ft) in El-Tamad-3 well ( Table 2 and Figs. 4-9).
Lithologic description: It is made up of sands with thin beds of clays. These sands are mainly loose,
coarse to very coarse grained, sub-rounded to sub-angular and poorly sorted, while the clays are light
to dark grey in colour, blocky, soft and non- calcareous.
Boundaries: All over the Nile Delta, it overlies conformably the shelf facies of Kafr ElSheikh Formation
and underlies the coastal- continental sands of Mit Ghamr Formation.
