INTRODUCTORY FACTS

- Russia is a transcontinental country spanning Eastern Europe till Northern


Asia
- It is the largest country in the world. Covering 17 million square kilometres
and extending across eleven time zones
- Russia follows a democratic semi-presidential form of government with
Vladimir Putin as president. However, in practice, politics in Russia falls
short of the basic democratic standard.
- The national animal of Russia is the Eurasian Brown Bear, and the national
bird of Russia is the Eagle.
WEATHER IN RUSSIA

Most of the country experiences a continental climate, which is a relatively dry climate
characterized by hot summers and very cold winters.

However, the climate of Russia ranges from place to place. Steppes in the south, including
much of European Russia experience humid and warmer climates whereas the northern Black
sea coasts and Siberian regions experience a much more frigid and subarctic temperature.

Russia includes modest to low amounts of precipitation, this however also depends on
location in Russia, with the Western parts of Russia experiencing much higher precipitation
than the south and south-eastern parts of the country.
LOCATION OF RUSSIA

Russia is located in North Asia. It borders 14 sovereign states, those being: Norway,
Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan,
Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia and North Korea

Russia has a total distance of roughly 5700 km from UAE. The most efficient way is to
take a flight, which takes an average time of 7 hours and 16 minutes or by car, taking a
total time of 2 days and 14 hours.
CURRENCY OF RUSSIA
● The currency of Russia is Russian Ruble, inspired from the original Soviet
currency, the Ruble (₽).
● One Russian Ruble is equivalent to 0.05 Dirhams.
● Vice versa, One dirham is equivalent to 20.05 Dirhams.
THE RUSSIAN FLAG

● Russia has a tricolour flags with white


on the top, blue in the middle, and red
at the bottom.
● White symbolizes nobility and
frankness, blue symbolizes
faithfulness, honesty, impeccability
and chastity, while red symbolizes
courage, generosity and love.
THE PEOPLE

• Russia is home to over 190 ethnic groups, of which 77.7% are of Russian descent, 6.8% are of
Turkic Origins, 1 percent of Ukrainians, and the rest of other regions.
• Around 1.5%, or around 2 million people among the Russian population are expats coming from
different nations, such as Mexico, British, Canadians, etc.
THE LANGUAGE

• The official and most spoken language in Russia is Russian, spoken by majority of the
population.
• However, apart from Russian and languages spoken by expiates, other languages include that of
Tatar tribes. Ukrainian is also spoken in the region.
• However, if you plan to visit Russia, you only have to be concerned on the Russian language.

are other traditional drinks such as Kvas and Ryazhenka.

RUSSIAN RELIGION

• The major Russian religion is Orthodox Russian Christianity, i.e. Christianity followed in the
Russian manner.
• However, in some regions of the nation, Islam is also practiced. Atheism is also a common
practice in Russia.
RUSSIAN FOLKLORE

• Russia is famous for its interesting folklore, including tales of fictional characters such as Baba Yaga and the
Fire Bird.
• Baba Yaga is a myth about a supernatural creature who take the form of a ferocious-looking woman, who
hunts for children. She is basically the Bogeyman of Russia.
• The firebird, sort of like the Phoenix, is a supposed majestic bird with feathers that burn, and that can set a
room on fire with a touch.

RUSSIA – PRECAUTIONS ON ARRIVAL
• When you plan to go to Russia, carrying medicines is not allowed without a doctor’s letter.
• Be ready to face thorough and strict security checks.
• When packing for Russia, especially in areas like Siberia, do not forget to pack layers of thick
clothing.
